FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY mMaRXKEP. Sunpar, Jaly 15—6 P. M. The week just closed has been ratner a quiet one, The stock market hes ecttied down into the inac tivity cenal for the season. Many specalatora are cout oftewn, having abandoned for the time the ex- etteaigint of the stock arenas. Tne bulls and bears ave in this way paired off and left the market in the banda of the smaller clases of operators. Thisin @ monenre acocunts ‘or the dulness that prevails at the Exchange; but there is another and more deep. ly rooted cause for the pause and inaction in the market: The position of financial affairs is such as to oreate in the minds of the more cautous capi- talista a feeling of apprehension, and in the minds ef baldecs of s‘ocks # desire to realize. The change that ia about being rea'ized is one calculated to ad- vance the most importent interests of the country, ‘and oaa affect injariously only those who are iz- volved deeply in stcck speculations. The demand fer money which is likely to arise from the mer an tile clagses, will draw capital from stock tovest- ments;,.and the probability is that tha mar ket will be over eugolied for some time to come, A® soon as tais movement commences, we shail find half a aczea sellers to one buyer; and aa the sellera will be those of compulsion, buyers will ¢eaily control the market. There is no doubt but that the harvests will be all that has been anti- Gipated—that the yield will be sufficient te insure an enormous éurplus. This point being settled, it fol- lows that oredit and confidence inpreases on all sides. ‘The fact that the preducirg clawes are in a pros perous eondition is suffic'ens to give a great impetus to business. The agricultural interest regulates all others ia this covntry; and when that is sound the consumption of ali articles of importation progresies rapidly. The merea:tile classes are preparing for @ very Bctive falltrade. The country is rich, and the demand for goocs is likely to be very great, This will require the emp!oyment of a larger capital emorg the merchants, andthe banks must supply the demend. Loans which are row out on stocks must be called in and put ont on business paper. ‘The banks may not enlarge their discount line materially; bot they must change ita character, and gaorifice the stock speculator, if necessary, to acco- modate the merckant. The brokers now have large favors from the banks, aud the amount of Joans has been rua up to high points by the bypothecation of stocks. A few weeks will place stocks in s position very different to that they now occupy. Ingoonection with these remurke, we give the ancexed extract” from the Boston Courier ot the 13th inat., relative to the depreciation of stock Beoaritice:— Thoteuth of the axiom, that ‘riches take wings and fly away,” was fully exemplified youterday by the sight and of a private acbedale of railroad stocks and ing to an indivicue), and valued eighteen montild ego at a little over $574.000, the market valus of witch to-day is only about $113,000, showing s de- Picotation of 9261,000 in one year and & haif, beside the of interest. We learn that the exdirectors of the Broadway Bask, these who are oppcsed to the one man power in the mansgement of banking institutions, intend eetablishing a bank to be governed upon proper prisciples. Sabecriptions have already been ob- tained for nearly a million of dollars, and as soon as the. tight location can be decided upon, the neces- eazy measures will be adopted to put the institution at once into operation. We know of no place requising @ well managed banking institution more thag the vicinity of Berkman street. The widening of that atreet and the probability of its being opened acréas the Park, to connectjwith Park place, makes it w very desirable location. There is only one bank in that neighborhood now, and that is by no means 6 popular inatitution, so that a five opening presenta iteeli for the employment of capital in that boainesa in that recticn. The ex-directors of the Broadway Bark compoced the backbone of ita man- sgement; and as they commard the confidence of the community, they would command a large mount of business from houses in the vicinity of tte Park. ‘The anthracite coal trade, notwithstanding the interruption on the Delawa'e division, lessening the ehipmests for the time on the Lehigh Navigation is large forthe past week—larger than was gene’ rally expected. The Reacing Railroad Company brought down for the week ending on Thursday, 48,240 tors, and for the ycar to the same time, 1,195,616 tors, being an excces of coal toonege to the mmo time last year of 141,999 tons. The Sebuyihill Navigation, for the week ending on ‘Thureday, brought down 26,530 tonsa, and for the sear 474,340 tons, beicg an excess of last year's ebipments to the same time of 64,031 tons. The in- creage thus far thie year from the Scduy)kill coal region over the coal tonnage from that region, to correeponding time last year, 1s 205,030 tons. The coal shipments from the Lehigh for the week endiog with Saturday last, were 27,614 tons, agains’ 28,154 tona for the corresponding week of last year; for the season, 479,499 tons, agaizat 418,489 tous to the same time last year, The retail market is affected For tump coal by the quantity the incrpasing sc. tivity im the tron business bas produced an improved demacd, and prices ars very firm, with an upward tendency. A very few weeks will probably show a similar Improvement in the demand for the other sizes, Stove coal is taken about as fast as it reachas makes, ‘The shipments of authracite coal from Richmond daring the week ending July 7, 1855, at the destins tion, were as follows: — Aibeay, N. ¥. The company hava closed negotiations for the eale of an issue of firat mortgage bonds, to wopply iron and equip the liar, At Youngstown the coal fields are reached, which will at once afford the road a profitable business. The cost of the read from Cleveland to Youngstown is estimated at $2,000,000. The company expect to place the ‘balance of the road, from Youngstown to New Cas tle, 18 miles, under contract during this season, to be finished next spring.
