Annual Commencement of tne Rutgers Fe- maie Inatitute, The sixterpth annual commencement of the Rutgers Female Institute took place yesterday in the Rutgers street Church. The occasion appeared to be one of more than ordinary interest, and we have never seen the edi- fice so crowded at any former commencement. The sudience was composed almost entirely of ladies, with a slight sprinkling of the sterner sex. In point of fashion and beauty, we have rarely seen it excelled, The ladion sppeared to the beat advantage; they were evidently de- termined to look beautiful, and it is suffictont to aay that they succeeded in thoir laudable efforts. ‘The exercises commenced with the singing of the fol- lowing eppropriate rong by the pupils, who were as- companied by the organ:— O, Lord, to thee we rsise our song, For thou hast led us safe along Life’s dimly lighted way; Accept in love the songs of | praise, With grateful hearts to thee we raise, Here, on this festal day. Oar journey has been strew’d with flawers, Gathered from the immortal bowers Of wisdom and of truth: No sorrow’s cloud bas crossed our way, But visions Mt by hope's glad ray Have cheored the path of youth. Dr Krebs read one of the best compositions, entitled “The Light of Life,’ a poem which displayed more than orai- nary talent, but which wo thiox might have cited with’ more effect. The reverend geatioman was evicently under the impression taut it was a oyma ho was reading. Why not allow tho young ladisa the privi lege of reading their own compositions?
