We understand that Mr, William Niblo has not closed his career as a manager, but has only suspended it for a short time, in order to bring out still greater attractions. Mr. Ullman has been for some time engaged in Europe ‘in securing musical povelties for Mr. Niblo, and in the wteamer of to-day, Mr. Isaac Jacobsohn, a gentleman ‘well known in musical circles, will sail for Europe to bring out the artists engaged by Mr. Ullman, and to secure such others as can be induced to visit the United Btates. Mr. Jacobsohn is a Wall street capitalist, a shrewd financier, and well acquainted with the merits of Eu- Fopean artists. He goes on @ regular musical mission for Mr. Niblo, with full diplomatic powers, and plenty of money, to"bind the high contracting powers to the performance of their agreements. It is the intention of Niblo and Jacobsohn to give us youthfu!, beautiful, fresh and brilliant artistes, like Cruvelli or Johanna Wagner. Cruvelli will probably appear at Niblo’s, and for the ballet there is Carlotta Grisi, whom Niblo engaged wome time since. Some of these artists, will be brought ‘out by Mr. Jacobsohn. Mr. Ullman has already engaged Signors Beraldi and Galvant, tenors; Bartholdi, baritone: Neri, basso; and Signoras Mudon and Julian, prima donnas. It seems to us that if Italian opera is ever to be es- tablished in this country, Niblo and Jacobsohn are the mento doit. The Academy of Music was too far out ‘ of the way—it was not established upon correct princi- ples; and although it commenced with the greatest ar- tists in the world, who, it was supposed, would succeed anywhere, it broke down before it had completed one weason. Mr. Jacobsohn has a large capital, and sufficient prudence to avoid the rocks upon which others have split. He will give us artiste not worn out or passé, but youthful, fresh and blooming. Niblo’s theatre is a most beautiful and popular house, and in a most excellent location. ) Meanwhile the opera troupe which lately performed at Niblo’s has proceeded to Charleston, 8. C., under the direction of Mr. Corbyn. After remaining there for some time, the company will go to New Orleans, where Wlle Nau will appear in French opera, The tour may ‘be extended to Havana and Mexico. { HERALD Stanistics. —The Milwaukee Sentinel, speak. ing of our statistics of the number of murders commit- ‘ted in the United States during the year 1854, says:— “Wisconsin is set down for eight murders and one exe- eution, We think the number of murders is probably correct, but there has been no execution, unless the lynching case in Waupacca county was counted as such.’”’ The Sentinel is right.
