NEW PUBLICATIONS. WORK OF INTENSE INTEREST.—“ NOTES ON Duels and Duelling,”” alphabetically arranged, with a preliminary historical essay, by Hon. Lorenzo Sabine. 1 vol., 12ms. Price $1 29. This work comprises sketches of the principal duels, from that between David and Goliath, the first on record, to the present day; and contains a full account of those of importance, including all of historical interest in the annals of this country. ‘The duels between Hamilton and Burr, Clay and Ran- dolph, Decatur and Barron, Cilly and Graves, as well aa many others, are related in full; and the author's fami- larity with history, and his intimacy with men in pub- lic life, has enabled’ him to bring to light facta of great interest ana value, The avidity with which every ac- count of a duel is sought for and devoured, led the pub- lishers to hesitate before offering the public a volume containing such a fund of interest ing and exciting mate- rial; but the high character of the author, and a peru- sal of hls historical essay, have convinced them that the Publication of the work it destined to exert a ‘highly be- neficialinfluence. New York, January 1, 1855,—Wiliiam Hall & Son, 209 Broadway, opposite ‘the Park, have decided to re duce the price of their entire catalogue and stock of non-copyright music to au average of one-half ita fory mer prices. In order to afford this reduction, we are } ob! to adopt the cash system; and we believe that our nds and the public gi ily will be even better served than heretofore, by a strict adherence to this principle. In regulating our prices, we Lave adopted eur pational currency, and have, as far as possible, made the prices in decimals. The price wil be marked om every piece of music. The non.copyrights thus: ‘“Re- duced price, — cents,”’ and the copyrights tans: “Copy right, — cents.” All the non-copyright music printed previous to this arrangement will be old at oue-half the old prices. A similar reduction will be mado in ia- struction books, &e. Since the study of music has be come an essential branch of education, a reduction in the price of sheet music has been demanded by t public, and we have no doubt that the plan wo hav adopted will increase our sales sufficient to warrant us in carrying out our enterprise to its fullest exteat.
