Assassination ix New Onveans.— Our city has again been made the theatre of a most revoiting and bloody murder. About nine o'clock last nigtt @ free colored man named Miche! Ho nore, was brutually assassinated by another free colored on named Dutriel Barjon, (both natives of this city, and well-known) near te corner of Ur- suline and Romain streets, in the Second district. The ci cumstances, as we could gather them, are substantially as follows:—About five months since, the parties had a quarrel one evening in the Globe ball-room, since which time they have been deadiy foes. Last night Barjon, accompanied by two friends, Xavier and Baptiste Jourdain, repaired to the residemce of Miche) Honore, on Ureuine street, and remaining on the banquette, sent a small boy into the pouse to call him out. He came out, walk- ed up toBarjon and asked him what he wanted. The latter, it is said, made no reply, but struck hin ever the head with a stick, when Honore drew a Pistol and fired at him. Barjon then attacked him With a dagger, and killed him, stab! him thirteen times— six times in the breast, four in ck, and three in the left arm. Honore felt dead on the ban- Guetten she murderer and his accomplices fied, and ve not since been heard of.—New Orleans Delta, August 31. Tax Cuorers 1x Fatt River.—Up to the 34 inst. fifty-eighth deaths from cholera had occurred at Fall River. In most cases those who died were atrongly addicted to theuse of ardent spirits. It ia also stated by the Fall River papers that a chemi- cal analysis of the liquors freely dispensed from the low groggeries of that place, ahowa that they are adulterated in some cases with sulphuric acid, a virulent poivon. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY HAREKET. Wennespar, Sept. 6—6 P. M. The stock market was moderately buoyant this mora- ing, and @ very large amount of business was done in Erle. The sales amounted to nearly five thousan’ shares, opening at an advance of 3 per cent, and closing at an sdvance of % per cent. There were « good many sales on time, seller’s option. The upward movement in Erie is evidently spasmodic. We do not see any founda- tion for a rise, and see no possibility of ita being sus- teined. The short statement made a day or two since will not bear examination, and we do rot believe new purchasers can be induced te take hold of the stock un- der existing circumstances. Mr. Homer Ramsdell, the President of the Erie Company, says that for the nine months ending June 80, 1864, the net earnings amounted to $616,521 64, which is at the rate of $68,502 per month. ‘he net earnings of the company for the pre- sent fiscal year up to the Ist of September, at the above rate, should have been $753,525. The April dividend de- ducted from that sum should leave in hand nearly $500,- 000 for the Ootober dividend. Instead of the Treasury showing such balance in hand, the company had to bor: Tow money on # mortgage of ita rolling property, for the peyent of interest on its funded dedt, due on the Ist of September. We have seen a good many reports showing large net earnings of the company, but they never have been realized The public would like very much to know what becomes of the large net earnings reported. We find that, in the face of such reported large earnings, the floatir g debt is continually increasing, and the inference is that important items of expenditure are omitted in the travsportation account, and paid off from the pro- ceeds of the floating debt But for tha floating debt, which ia all the time steadily increasing, the earnings of the road would be entirely consumed in the operating expenditares and payment of interest, and we have not seen more conclusive evidence of that fact than the receng financial operations of the company. If the promiss} report is not more satisfactory than: the one just made, the msrket value of the stock must give way permanent ly. Most of the leading fancies advanced at the first board to-day. Nicaragua Transit went up 1 per cent; New York Centre] Railroad }{; Hudecn Biver Reilroad 1. Reading Railroad declined 14 per cent. Cumberiand Coal stock is getting quite active again, at better prices. We have noticed sales to some extent of Gold Hill at $2 650 perehare. It bas been noticed that a.gool deal of tei. stock comes upon the market just before dividend day ‘We hope that the funds for the payment of the dividend: is not raised by the sale of atock. It may be nothing but a coincidence, but it looks bad, particularly at thie time, when mining stochs are in such bad odor. ‘A very respectable number of gentlemen interested in . the Erie Railroad Company, assembicd at the Astor House this morning, in accordance with the call published a few ‘days since, im anticipation that some representative of the Board of Directors would be present, prepared to make scmea statement regarding the financial position of the company, but to their great disappointment no one apresred. This might beve ween expected. Whenever an opportunity occurs for an explanation, it ie goneraily treated in this way. The meeting adjourned without do- ing anything; rather an extraordinary issue for an as- rembJage of business men, on the approach of an election for directors, when it would seem incum>ent that some preliminary steps should be taken to provide for anew ticket, it being understood that the present directors ‘ave disposed of their stock in anticipation of a declension of @ re-election; their experience having proved less profitable than expected. The mesiing was composed of such men as James Brown, Dow D. Williamson, &e , &. Atthe second board the market ‘was not so well sus- tained; Nicaragua Transit fell off % per cent; Erie Rail- road, 4; Reading Railroad, 34; Harlem, %, There were only two small operations in Erie Railroad for cash. The receipts of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railrosd forthe last month, and thus far for the present year, have been exceedingly large, showing it to be one of the ‘most prosperous works in the West. The gross amount for the present year will be nearly equal to twenty per cent on the total coxt of the work.
