In four hours the pills operated, and he wae well. When | prostration of the powers of the body come on, whether accom vanied or not with purging, a dose of Brandreth’s pills cannot be too soon awallowed. The very cs use and occation of this weakness, wil ve speedily ex polled from the bowels and ciroulstion; and there is a0 congestion or evil to be feared from their use. This is nut so with opium or quinine. It is trae that you may kill pain and stoy fever by their use; but alas | the fatal siokness, to sudden deaths which follow too often the use f theve re- meuiea are sad experiences, for the mothers and fathers, who have cansed ft] childrea to use chemj—may it in ail cases be done ignorantly and not against ligut and reason. In any painful cisease, duriug the paroxysms, let four or six dreth’s pills be taken every few hours, They will etop the pain as soon as opium or any anodyns, and there is no evil after ets. Another and yet aco ther peroxysm may occur aud the patient may fear that he will purge himself to death. but if he has the courage and understanding to cootinue the pills, he will have the oes advantage of getting well soouer than by any other method. Ihave sold a million and a balf boxes of Brandreth’s Pilly this year—some persons, therefore, evidently used them, Butstill the principle of purgation is compara- tively little comprehended. Even persous who have for years seen the beneficial effects of purgation around ‘them, and in their own families, do not appear to under- stand it; and although the Pills selt wed, yet their gre: Asn age and usefulness a8 a universal remedy is com- paratively yet unknown. Should be spared until [am a hundred years old, perhaps sue words I then utter may be beéded. Shouid I die to-morrow, the great sruth that purgation will cure every disease would remain the same. Ido bere, this 224 day of August, 1854, avow tho belief on my honor asa man, that I should have died in the year 1830, but for Brandreth’s Pills ; it was their use as & purgative that then saved my life. Their use in large doses bas four times since saved me from chronic dis- ease; and it is to them and the blessing of God, to which J attribute the vigorous health I now evjoy. In some constitutions one or two doses of pills will re- store the health, while with others it requires the use of the pills several days to eifect this object. In these cases there is a great necessity for the mc to be fully impressea with the efficacy of the tive Pian of Treatment, for without this conviction he may falter, and to falter is often to die. I will Mustrate by # case exactly in point. A gentle- mxn, well read upon the science of purgation, who has studied Samuel Collins Hamilton on “ Purgation Sancto- rious,’”? and Leroy’a ‘‘ Curative Method.’”? and who be- lieves that be has some reason for his faith, was taken about three o’clock in the morning with Asiatic cholera, He immociateiy took three of Brandreth’s pills; the pe culiar discharges were stayed, and in a few hours the pitls operat nd by evening he was as well as usual, except 4 littie weakness. He slept well that night; the next day his appetite was good and he was pleased to ‘think bow easily he had recovered from the prevailing formidable affliction. The next morning, at the same hour as before, he was attacked with the peowiar discharges. and dreadful sensation of sisking. He swal- lowed ae Brandretn’s pills, they gave him relief, andinbalfan hour the oicbarges were stayed. ‘Ihe pills operated as usual. The purgative effects ot the pilis bad been over but a few hours, when he was 0 attacked with the peculiar symptoms of cholera. Now he was greatly alarmed, and concluded to drink a great quantity of bot boneset tea, baving in view the effect it would have on the skin. ‘the tes prodnced vomiting and sweating, and again the bowels remained quiet. In a few hours the debilitating odorless discharges commenced again. The paticnt then felt it was all over with him; ne had made his will and now submitted with resignation to the will of God. Aa , however, he concluded mn. ho; to take another dose of Brandreth’s sills. He picked out six of the Jargext he could tind in @ box, swailuwed them and laid himself down, believing that was his last dose He went to s'eep ana slept four hours; bis bowela were then moved, but ales! the same Cholera discharges ap- » accous| a by the most prostrating a ra a meee were woe agra geod of great joy, a good 8 was the Fesult. ‘ihe next day, bo. gut up very weak, but well, aud bas had no return since. case, in my opinion, would bave been fatal, if any other than the purgetive treatment had been pursued.
