An nse ww FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL, ) MONEY MARKET. Sunpay, June 18—P. M. Throughout the week just closed there has been a very Sepressed feeling in the stock market, and the market value of all classes of securities has been steadily depre- ciating. Dividend paying as well as non-dividend paying stocks have followed the same track, and those who have been compelled to realize, have had to submit to great Bacrifices. The bears have hada fine harvest, but it is ‘eur opinion that they are now sowing a crop, in putting out short contracts, that will not prove so productive. They are never satisfied with a decline in prices, no mat- ter how great it may be, and frequently lose by a reac- tion what a little caution would have secured, The demand for money for some days past has been very ac- tive, and the market is decidedly stringent. The banks have been particularly cautious since the last weekly statement made such a poor exhibit in the specie @epartment; and we must look for a contraction in bank credit tosome extent. Theshipmentsof specie last week amounted to nearly a million anda half of dol Jars, a sum we can ill afford to lose just At is fortunate for holders of ay is not far off. The first of July gener large amount of capital in the shape of dividends, and it will enable many to carry stocks who otherwise would be forced to It has been reported that a delivery had been made by the seller of the five thousand shares wf Nicaragua transit stock, sold in December last at 25 per cent, seller twelve months. This is incorrect; only B partial delivery bas been made. The fortunate pur- chaser has received but two thousand ehares, leaving three thonsand shares undelivered, We learn that the books of this company will be closed in a few days, when a dividend will be declared, payable on or about the 5th of July. The declaration of a dividend will be Sccompanied with a report that will show the ability of the company to pay ai is hereafter regular semi- annvally. We are assured that if the company hereafter earns annually half as much money as it has during the past year, regular semi annual dividends of four per cont an be paid. Albert H. Nicolay’s semi weekly auction sale of stocks and bonds will take place, as usual, on Monday, at half- past 32 0’clock, at the Merchants’ Exchange. The outward movement of specie from this port last ‘week was quite active, as will be seen by the annexed Btatement.— Suipsexts or Specre FROM THR Port oF New York. t this time. alize, Bark ¥. 8.
