FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY MARKET. ‘Tuespay Feb, 21-6 P. M. ‘The stock market was very unsettled at the opening this morning, and thare were indiestions of a mioderate reaction. The operations wore large, generally at lower prices. At the first board Parker Vein declined per cent; Morris Canal, 3¢: Iiivots Contra! Privilege bonds, 263 Erie Railroad, 3; Reading Reilroad, <j Now Havem Rail” road, <j Mishigan Southern C nstruction, '<- Delaware ‘and Hudgon advanced 3¢ pir ovat; New Yor ery Bonds, \¢; New York Centra! Railroad. Gs es ape sree ag ee Vein sold largely Tom 265 40. oer eee an iconly otarod, Bele Railroad ‘at the decline, and stock war ye are, Thaadrance waa, under the circumstance, ?) : in eneh of these stoshs has bern rapid. It is currently reported that the Krie Railrose Company will pay on the Ast of April # seni annual dividend of fear par cent. This will be mach betier than stockholders have anti- cipated, in comsequence of the delay and derangement of travel at Erie for several worse, The detention and dif, culties experienced at that point teaded materially to the decrease of receipts om the Erie Railroad, and affected the net earnings of the compsxy. If, in the face of these unfavorable movements, the company can pay a divicend in April of four per cemt out of the actual met income, it can do much better than we supposed, to say the least. Nicarsgua Transit moves slowly either upordown. It does not sppear to be so much influenced by speculators as other fancies om the list. Tue steamship Star of the Weat, belonging to this line, left port yesterday for Sen Jean, with s full complement of passengers for Califor- mis. Her way bill was very large. This line ia daily be- coming @ greater favorite with the travelling public. In other stocks nothing has occured (o affect them im any ‘way; but as far as the operations at the Stook Exchaeg: G0, it ts the prevailing impression that much higher prices will be soon realised There is very little danger of apything in the ehape of intelligence from the seato hostilities, or from the cifferent points of negotlatioa, ia Europe, reaching us, to dep: or depresiate more thas temporarily the market value of our stock sesucitide It}is the belief of many that the reduced value of our cotton crop exported to Karope will, in the event of war, be so great as to materially restric ur resources, and consequently entail distress and disas ter upon that great interest. Tain has ever been the cry of those who have but superficially examined the sub- ject, and who therefore suppore that any depreciation im the value of that great staple is so much interest los to the country at large. Any important reduction in the quastity of the raw material exported would most likely restrict the manufacture om the other ride. If it did mot prices would be maintained, aad we should not feel the effect anticipated. If the shipments were largely Giminished, in consequence ef the want of a demand for consumption in Europe, we should be obliged to maau- facture more largely at hoine to supply our own markets with many articles which are now mecu‘actared abr:ad, and which we have to pay for in some way. Tais would reduce our imdebtedness for such fabrics, and s more moderate éxportstion of our products would be required to adjust the dalazes of trade. ‘The impetus such o state of things would give our domestie manufacturing interest wou'd never ‘be effaced, and we shculd be a: sed several years in the contest now going on between this country and Great Bri- tain for superiority in this braach of industry. A gene- tal war throughout Karope would, by increasing the value of money, reduce the market value for every species or manufactures, particelarly all articles of luxary and ex travagance. Our wants would, tyerefore, be supplied at cheaper rates and less aggregate cost. On this account s more mite’ ¢xportation of our own products would suffice to preserves proper equilibrium of trade. In evsry print Of view we see nothing but the most favorable results growing out of the present position of affairs in Europe. A war would increase and rtrengthen the disposition among foreign capitalists to place their property on this wide of the Atlantic, where it would be out of the reach of all politioal revolutions, and where wars or yumors of war would not endanger or destroy. Whatever tends to tranafer capital and industrial talent from Earope to our shores, direstly advances all our local interests, and we know of no event #0 well calculated to give the movement & great impetus as the actual com nencemeat of sg: neal European var. After the adjournment of the Board the following sales were made a! auction by Simeon Draper:— Peru and Indie’lis RR ist mtg (int. added). 80 Western Vt. 24 mort. 61 Among the stocks to be offered at the Exchange to- mor- row (Wet mesday) are the two thousand new issue shares Of the Citizens’ Bank of this city, whish will be sold to the highest bidder in lota of twenty shares, with the privi loge of two hundred. ‘The steamship America will rot leave Boston for Liver- pool until Thursday, The Baropean mail will be made up here to morrow,(Wednesday.) We have no change to make im our past quotations for foreign exshange. The de- mand continues limited. The exports from Baltimore to foreign ports durin; fast week amounted im value to th. sumof $448,147. Amorg the principal) svticles ¢xported were 37,818 barrele of geur, 20,910 bushels of corm, 1,676 barrels of corn meal, anc 23 hogheads of tobaseo. The Senate of Virginia, after a warm discussion, has sid upon the table ihe bill for the suppression of small motes. Im the House a bill has been reperted to inoorpo- rate the Bank of Richmond, with a ital of net leas ‘tham $300,000 and not more than $800,000, The bill in- creasing the capital stock of the Fredericksburg and Gor. Gonaville Railrosd bas been rejected. The ansexed statement exhibdits the quantity and value of eartaim articles exported from this port daring the week ending and including Ss\urday, the 18th of Febra- ‘Bry, 1664, distinguishing the destination and extent of shipments to each place:-- Uommmmcs or tas Port or New Yore—Wemxty Kxronrts, DOW Lom) .
