The Diario of this latter dats has an editorial ar* icle on the subject of Mexico and the invasion of Sonora. It says:— xioo, rather than have confirmed the treaty of Gua- | dalupe-Hicalgo, ahonli bave continued the war to the utwost extremity, aad prepared desperately to suffer all the consequsnees of it. Perhape the fate of arms might have changed, and perhaps, (blah is most pro}able,) the attention of Europe might have been awaiened ia time, so aaaot to permit a conques: which could only be equalled by the hostile dismsomberment of Poland. The ides often ex- pressed by ws should be incalcated with the great- est care, not only as @ record, but also as ®& les- son for tre future. But already the evil is committed, and s population fersign to Mexico has seized upon her mine-neighboring towns om the coasts of the Pacific, Hence the new loss—not certain, bat possible—of Sonori and its invasion by a horde of bandits. Nevertheless, we would not desire to see Hexic) exhaust her strength in athauklers war, on ac- ecunt of circamstances which we hare before explained. The conservation of the Mexican territory, to its least portion, is of much comsequence; but this’ same conser- vation has its degrees of importance, and to protect @ remote angle, other more important ‘points should mot be neglected, to strengthen more than ever the line of the Rio Bravo, to encourage the publie spirit of Chinua bua, aud the cther frontier departments and to econo- mise ite material strength. Sach is the line of conduct which we would judg t be most ac viva ola aad beneficial. If it be not, then what would satiefy them upon the subject ? Last Tuesday, 20th instint, was s great day here, being the birth( ay of the Princess of Asturias, the daughter of Iwate! the Second, of Spain. There was # grand review ofnearly ail the soldiers in the garrison, ani some militia from the country, I believe, by the Captaia General, Pe- cuela, Asa review, it was farcical, the men, who were well atlired, were drawn up along the Pasao de Isabel Segunda, ina crooked line, and the Captaia General snd his staff galloped at the top speed of their horses down the front of the line; the soldiers then marched off, very badly, to their barracks, There were sslutes fired at daybreak, midday, and at sunset; flags were displayed from all the public buildings, aad the church bells were rupg nearly all day long.
