The world has got the message. The abolition organs otNew York had the first reading, but Comgress, the lobby, and the outside world have sinos read it; and most people, without complaining wuch ef what the President ‘ays, are disappointed in what he has not said. He says mothing about the startling condition of Europe—nothing about the Africanization of Cuoa, upon which the Union as deen harping ever since the removal of Judge Brousoa—nvihing definite or satisfactory eoncercing the Maheries—notning affording any idea of the sort of treaty wemay expect with France in commercial matters— —wothing of the Monroe dcctrine of non intervention aod John Bull in Central America—nothing of the Tshusa epee question—nothing of the Sonora fillibusteriag expe dition—nothing of our future policy, with regard to the Mormons and Hormon polygamy, (which some suppose ix Yestand as one of our peculiar institutions, under the adviee of Caleb Cushing, the law officer of the Cabiast)— ever & word about French rpohations, and nothing con- gerning the annexation of King Kamehamehe and the feadwich Islands, And why not? Why are all thase @mizsious? Why should we not ammex the Sand wie islands, the king and his council, and all. We have gome of the greatest rivers, and mountains, ani plains tm the world, why should we mot have the biggust and hottest volcanoes? And they have clin¢hed the nail with the message So [ bad supposed; but from your ewn* columns I see that the fight on the part of the Hrnacp isnot yet begun —that it has been merely planting its batteries for the real work of the campaign—that it bas been bringing the @abinet to the issues which are yet to be fought out before the country. Durirg the past week the stock market had besn mo- derately buoyant. The operations have beea to some extert, and more decided movement has appeared in some of the leading fancies, and those who have held for sometime, alnest against hope, have now some chance of getting cut without ruinous serifices. Nicaragua Transit has been the favorite among certain speculators, and prices have advamoed about three per cent. This company will soon mace a report, and present it ata special meeting of the stockholders, called for that pur- pose, This is the English and New England plan, and will bea new feature here. This will enable those who feel inclined te put such questions to the oftivers of the company, explanatory of the report, as circumstances may dictate, sod the whole matter will be more satisfac. torily disposed of than in the secret, mysterious manner usually practised in this latitude and longitadg. The report, we understand, will be full aad conclusive. The report of the Eris Railyosd Compeny, is, we believe, acceptable to stockholders gsnerally, Tae aggregate amount of stock end debt on the 30th of Septem der, 1853, was $33,225,848. The gro:s earnings for the year ending September 30, 1853, were $4,318,962 36, Transportetion expenses in same time, $2,407,373 13. Net earnings for the year, $1,911,589 23, This is the gist of the report. Numerous tables'are given, to confirm and substantiate these state- ments. Cne thing appears pretty plain im this report, ‘and that we are pleased to see. We allude to the entire management of the line, so far as operating itis eoncera- ed, This isan important step, which, we trust, will be ‘ollowed by others necessary to put the eompany, in its nterval and external affairs, upon a sound and solid foundation. There is mueh yet to be done, and Mr. Me- Alpine must not get weary in well doing. Nothing has transpired in any other promizent stock ealculated to in ftuence the market value either way, Money continues in active demand, and the etreet rates range from nine to twelve per cent for business paper, Tho banks are slowly but steadily enlarging their regular line of discounts, but as Jong as the outward movement of specie continuss #9 strong we eannot expect mnch ease in the money market. The Cunard Jine offers mere favorable terms fer shipping gold than the Collins line. The steamship Arctic, at this port from Liverpool, to- éay, brings four days later news from all parts of Europe. ‘There is rothing definite or decided relative to the posi- tion of affairs inthe East. The financial accounts are not so favorable ss those received by the previous steamer. The London Chronicle of the 29th of Novem- ber, says — There has been a very unsettled and anxious feeling manifes‘ed to-dey in the English stock market. There are many matters of an importact charaeter which now Gistract the attention of the dealers, and the operators find it difficult to arrive ata defiuite conclusion as to the probable course of future events, and the phases of the market, As regards politics, the dealera look with in- creased anxiety at the progress of the Eactern question They generally conclude that the period for negotiatioa bas elapsed, or that the efforts to secure peace will beun- successful. Money has for the las: few days beem gradually becoming tighter and tighter; discount accomadation is found to be lesa freely granted, and» fear is ex pressed that the value of money is about again to advance. The export of the precious metals to France and to St. Petersburg has for some days past, as before noticed, been very active, and for the present there appears but slight chance of much di- mination. On contrary, it is feared that the ship ments may be extended over a lengthed period, and be- come accelerated. The financial operations of the govern- ment are of increasing importance, and the anxiety to know what is in contemplation is very great. With re ference to foreign politica, the ascounts received to day have not, by any means, tended to assure those interest ed in the subject, that farther negotiations for an amica ble settlement of the differences between Russia and Tur key will be successful, and hence ed lca anxiety felt om the matter increases rather ihan declines. As regards the money market, there is certainly much reason to ex- pect that the present rates will be maint and that the value of money is ga likely to a. borne: peed recede during the present year. The large amount of stock pur- chared by the public during the last two months, amas yithdrawn considerable amount of capital trom one channel, and thrown it into the market for employment elsewhere. At the same time, the ex- portation of the precious metals, which, as we have so often had to remark has been most astive, in- creases, and is likely still to do so, whilst it will be ob- re:ved that the arrivals of gold from Australie are not, by any means, to the extent they were expected to be. ¢ fiaanciai arrangements of the Chanceller of tae Ex- chequer axe, however, of more immediate importance than either of the two preceding questions, as upon them depends, more than upon any thing else, how the pri of the public fuuds will be aifeeted, and what will proba bly be the course cf the money market. It is remem dered tkat during the early part of the month of January, now pretty close at hand, » sum of about six millioce sterling has to be paid to the public in ths shape of aividends, and that a similar sum represents the amount of the various stocks which will at the same period be paid off. The ar rapgemen's which may have m made upon this sub- ject are felt to be of considerable importance; and aa, with the exception of what was announced in the Aforn ing Chronicle of Saturday, there has been as yet no intimation afforded the dealers, their anxiety iacreases it is feared that if a sum of about twelrs millions s‘erlirg were at once to be piaced in the hands of the public, an instantaneous and most injurious effect would be pro- cuced. The circulation of the bank would be sudden!y expanded to an unvafe extent, money would become ex ceadingly cay, specula'ion would be promoted, projast of doubifal character be projected, a mass of foreiza si curities would be thrown upon our market, oar metal resources be greatly reiucei, and the whole monetary system of the country be di-arranged and thrown iazo cisorder, from the time to recover. With reterence to this subject ii in us cessary to o>terve that the Bank of Eoglant is as deeply interested in if as any other mouetary institution or firm in thecountry. There is, howsver, res- ton to belleve that a well known house at Amstacdam, deeply connected with Russian interests, is at the present time seeking tocbtain a large sum of money for trans- mission to St, Petersburg. The Times, of the 20th of November, says :— The specie movements of the week have been extraor ii parily heavy, and grestly on tl vorable side. The arrivals have consisted of £276,000 gold, and £50,000 silver; and the exports of upwards of £800,000 gold, and £20,000 silver, of which the amount of goid tor the Rus- sian government was £600,000, while an additional total = £160,000 has been sent wo St. Petersburg by private ris.
