Boston, Nov. 28, 1853. ‘The second trial for the election of representatives to- @ay, has established beyond doubt the whig supremacy fm Masrachusetts for the next year. Lowell elects ten ‘whige Lawrence three, and many other towns where there ‘was no choice before elect whigs. ‘The weather hove is cloudy and cold, and a tew flakes of mow—the first of the season—feli to-day. Late from Texas, d&c. Barrmore, Nov, 28, 1853, ‘Whe New Orleans mail of Tuesday last is recaived, but ‘the papers contain no news of importance. Wew Orleans papers of Monday last contained dates from Galveston, Texas, to the 17th Nov., announcing the or- ganization of the Irgislature and the delivery of Governor Bell’s message, which is largely devoted to the subject of ‘fhe Pacific Railroad. The Governor recommends the El Pamo route. The system of military defence of the fron- ‘Mer is complained of as inadequate, and the action of the Legislature is invoked in the matter. Yellow fever was still lirgering at Galveston and Hous- ton. A letter from El Passo, dated 27th October, says that the wallans had attacked s company of Americana and stolen fave hundred head of horses and mules, and also blankets ‘end elothing. Deprodations by the Indians wore of daily @ecw rence; they even venture within a few hundred yards ef the fort cccupied by U 8. troops. ‘The Alabama Legislature had decided to elect U. 8. Sen- ators on the 26th, (Saturday las:.) A despatch to the Charleston Mercury, says the election of Fitzpatrick and Clay, the caucus nominees, is probable, but not certain. Clese of Navigation at Bangor—Vessels Blocked in the Ice, Bayaor, Nov. 28, 1853, Navigation is closed here; the anchor ice with the sur- fase ioe making an obstruction of several feet in thick- mess, There are from sixty to eighty vessels, with full eargees, enclored in the ice, besides the steamers Daniel Webster, Boston, and Eastern State. These steamboats made an a:tempt on Sunday to force their way through, but abandoned Ht, and returned to their wharves, The foe obstruction extends about five miles, A contract has been made thia morning with the agent of the shipping owners and Col. John Goddard and Jamon Duaning to cut ebarnel and get out the vessels at $1 per ton, which will amount to about $14,000. The job will last about seven days, and the railroad force has been turned to the remcval of the ice. oO nal Navigation, &c. Atnany, Nov. 28, 1853. The weather, within the last few days, has been very old, and the forwarders by canal are about making their last shipments forthe season. Quite a number of boats gre laid up already. Pritaparnia, Nov. 28, 1853, A despatch from the Breakwater tes that the brig Delhi, from Porto Rico, with sugar and molasses, for Now York, struck on the Breakwater last night, and was aban- @oned by the captain and crew. Mr. Walker took charge ef her and succeeded in beaching her. She is now partly fall of water. The schooner Democrat, from Plymouth, broke her bow- sprit last night. ‘The brig Romco has been got off and ix now inside the Breakwater. Markets. ‘Anay, Nov. 28, 1853, No receipts have been sent in. Flour Police Intelligence. HE BANK OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK ROBBERY— MONEY RETURNED TO THE BANK. In the case of the recent bank robbery, mentioned in yesterday’s edition, quite a rumber of persons eongrega- ted in and about the office of the Chief of Volice, witha view of seeing the prisoner, Johnson, the robber of the bank, whose examination it was belleved would take place at 120’clock, before the Mayor, Howsyer,the prisoner waa not brought from the cel),and many went away disap- pointed at not being gratified with a sight of the man whoso dexterously extracted $27,510 from the Bank of the State of New York without detection, Odicer Keefe, yeaterday, made an afiidavit setting forth the manner aoil cireum- stances attending the arrest ani the recovery of the mo- ney, which amounts to $52,265, the facts of which we have already published. Mr. Adolphus H. Iefiingwell, assistant teller of bank, testified in an affidavit the tise cf the larceny, also the amount of money ste jen, and Xlentilies the si recovered by the police to be those stclen {rom the bank; some of the paper rappers still bear tho private marks.
