BELIEP FOR THE PRINTERS OF NEW ORLEANS. ‘What their Brother Printers of New York are Dsing fer them. A meeting of the printers of New York was held on Satarday night | st, at Tammany Hall, to devise pecans for the relief of the members of their profes- tion who bave suffered or who are still suffering fom the ravages of the yellow fever in New Orleans. Toe Taortality aniong the printers in that ill-fated city has been as great if not greater tham among any other class of workmen. In several offices more than one- half the hands h«ve died, and the expense incurred by attendance w the sick, or in the performance of the last sad offices for the dead, has beea s@ heavy, shat the Typographical Association of New Orleans has already expeuded all its funds, and is now, we understand, indebted to a considerable amount. In this emergency the printers of New York have gemerously come for ward to coniribate a portion of their mvans for the relief of theirbrothers in affliction. This movement ig most creditable and praiseworthy, from the fact that their assistance was no! solicited by the society. We hope that others will contribute towards this be nevolent object, and that the printers will not be lef, alone in their exertions. The meeting was called to order about eight o'clock, and Mr. Thomas N. Rooker appointed chair- main, Mr. Letlingwell officiating as secretary. When the meeting was organized, the President said he understood there were some gentlemen present who had received !ettera from, New Orleans, descriving the condition of the printers in that city, and ex- pressed the bupe that they would be read. Mr. Tuomas then read the following extracts:— New ORLKANS, Sept. 8, 1563 ‘You Rave I know, ere this, heard something of our loss by the sw/«! soourge that is now amongst us, du: im cas@ you have not heard all, or nearly so [ wil you some isems that may have bees overlooked by yo advisers. Noone class of the community in that ill-fated city have to lament greater inroads upon their number than the printers; and {t has frequently happened that he who today eet the type which announced the deaths his fellow-citizens, has to morrow had the same sad office performed for himself by the one who yesterday worked at his side. Many and mournful are the cases of sorrow and suffering a our fellow craftsmen, the tidings of which have react our ears; much has been done to alleviate it by the Typezra- phical Union of that city; but their treasury is exhaus% and upon us, who are enjoying the blessings of health an prosperity, devolves the duty of caring for.our less fortu- Bate brothers sed friends. MONEY MARKET. Sunpar, Sept. 25—6 P. M. The tendency of prices during the past week has been upwards, and im some of the fancies quite an improve- ment bas been realized. Speculation has been active, and the bulls have had things almost entirely their own way. The bears have freely put out contracts both om buyers’ ard sejlers’ option, and the excitement at times has been intense. The most important movement of the week in the street was the declaration of « dividead by surprised at this gonouncement, for it has been talkel about some time, The party in power are too heavy holders of stock to lose the favorable influence of auch an act, but the effect has not been so beneficial as anti- clpated, The treasurer and his friends are too deeply interested in contracts about maturing to dispense When the dividend was announced the market value ef the stock was eighty seven per cent, now it is less than eighty-four, dividend on, showing a de- cline of three per cent, It is reported in | the street that the treasurer’s clique held upwards | of forty thousand shares, which bave cost ninety per this quantity without submitting to mest ruinous saer!- fices. The fimancial statement which accompanied the declaration of a dividend puts down the floating debt at $2,170,000, and figures up the interest for seven months on $1,450,000, and for three menths om $720,000, In the report published by the late President, Benjamin Loder, it appears that om the 10th of March last, the floating debt smounted te $3 261,703 31, er $1,191,701 31 mere | than the amount acknowledged om the 224 ef September. | Every one knows that not a dollar of the company’s float- ing debt has been paid for it is not denied that notes om dorred by several of the direstors have beem discounted in the street. The interest om the floating debt not re- | ported for nine menthis, amounts to $62,503 72. This, ta- | ken from the reperted net caraings, leaves » balance of | $294,150 Clas the actual net inceme fer nine months, | or less tham three per'cent for nine months. Thi! is the most favorable view ef the matter tha’ ean be taken, and the financial condition of the company isprebably as sound now as itever will be again. It is | nothing more, even with tnis exhibit, than a three per cent stcek, and we deubs if even that moderate rate will points, Regular operaters in the street will not touch it, and ro cne appears to have any confidence init. In other faxcies there is nothing new. Considerable appre- hention exists ameng the shrewdest capitalists relative to the future complexion of the money market, and there are certainly sufiicient csuses ior the worst fears. The banks are moving cautiously, and only loaning on calls with the most undoubted security, Private capital- inte will culy loam on eall, and the impression is daily be: coming stronger that we sbali have a regular stampede among faney stocks, and stringent times generally. Last week there was redeemed at the United States Treasury twe hundred and seventeen thonsand three hundred and fifty-eight dollars ($217,368) of Government Sizes, ; There was quite am active outward movement in specie from this port last week, as will be seen by the annexed statement :— SinrMents oy Sracre rnow Tire Port or New York, Sept. 40—Brig Bolivar to Ceuidad.
