A rup- ture hes broken out in the democratic ranks, pro- woked by the conduct of pretended leaders and en- Cemraged by the two “State papers” in this city, and from the belligerent manner in which negotia. fleas have been conducted by self-instituted pleni- potentiaries on both sides, during the last.six months, the wonder is that an open declaration of war had Bet been made some time since. The occurrences daring the last six days were eubstantially as fol- lews:—A meeting of what is purported to be “The Demecratic General Committee,” was called, in the evening paper, to take place the same evening, and within three or four hours of the time after the no. tice appeared in print. This being an act of the burners, the hunkers persisted that some stratagem ‘was intended, and rallied their strength at the meet- ing. That this rupt has occurred is not at all sur- tan 1g to any person who has noted the elements the last three months. The bitterness and vindictiveness manifested in the Legislature engen- dered the spirit of discord, and spread hostility in the party. throughout the State. From the moment of assem! of that body to its final close, there has been no concert between the two sections, which promised to have the hatchet buried, as was sepponed last November. The feud has been perso- — fierce and vindictive. It was transfe: from to the press, and thence to the party it the State; and now, here, at head-quar- ters, an outbreak has occurred, which will have an inffvence all over the State. The strife from now un- til the meeting of the State convention will be to to secure 5 majority in that body. The section hay- ing the strength ef undisputed delegates, will most assuredly reject. their opponents who contend for ‘he matter has ee too far to expect an like followed, or fairness o| served. The majority will rule in that convention with a rod of iron, present their candidates, and throw the responsibility of victory or defeat upon their opponents. : Is there may are of a reconciliation before the. election 3 there a peace-maker among us? Who can pacify the boisterous elements? an a platform be constructed of such material as to sus- tain the malcontents? Who is the architect? Will Governor Sey mour take the broad axe ia hand? Can Comptroller White join a plank or two? What will Daniel S. Dickinson undertake to do?—anything? He refused office under Pierce, and prefers to remain one of the sovereigns, He will not intercede. Where's Cooley’ He’s out upon a fishiag excursion beyond Saratoga, where he'll remain until the im- bment court assembles. Vanderbilt is at Union ollege, poring over Dr. Nott’s musty volumes of finances for the last half century; he cannot there- fore spend any time, if he had the disposition, to construct a new platform. Who, then, will throw himself in the breach? Is there a man in the State who can accomplish it? No, not one. Well, has the Premier the power? His soft shell predelictions dis- qualify him entirely, and so he need not be troubled with the embassy. Shall a deputation be sent to | President Pierce, invoking his aid? All sides seem to endorse his inaugeral, except the Hon. Ebenezer 8. Mareh, of Tompkins county, of the present House of Assembiy, who pronounced its doctrines “ damna- ble.’ Will the General put his foot upon the filli- bustering malcontents, and command them to har- monize, nolens volens? Or will he wait until he has reduced to submission the rebels in Maine, and “ Burked” the traitors in New Hampshire? He has still im; it appointments to fill; but whether he is awaiting the result of the August election, isa matter best known to himself. It is certain that his delay has-produced no very desirable effect in Ken- tacky, where Lynn Boyd and four or five of the party go to the next House of Representatives. It is asserted here, though, that His Excellency must im- mediately recogni) by unmistakeable evidence, the “ original Jacobs” in family jar, or they will set hin: upon the back of his pony, faced for the Granite Hilla, Therefore, it will be seen that no media- torial power exists e1uncl at headquarters in this State or at Washington, by which this raptare may be healed. Why not leave the whole difficulty to the Tammany Sachems? They have experience in such matters, and if they should magnanimously adopt a precedent of their own ruling some three months since, much good may come out of it. Think of this, O, ye democratic sinners ! i this “is nuts” for the whigs, and they will “crack” them too. A week ago the whig party lay as dormant as a toad encaged in a rocky sarcopha- gus. They scarcely intended te organize for the ign, thinking themselves not sufficiently re- orulted from the great defeat of 1852. But the split- ing up in this city—the organizing into two distinct the democracy, countenanced by many Of the leaders—has awakened the whigs into new life. We hear nothing now about ‘woolly heads’’ or “gilver grays’—Fillmore has had his day, and Sew- ard has no formidable competitor. The whigs will now nominate such men as Hunt, for Comp- troller; ook, for Treasurer; Senator Bab- eock for Attorney General, who will bring out all their strength at the polls. It matters not which section obtains ascendancy in the Senate, so far asthe United States Senator in 1853 is con- cerned; should any color become predominant, the retarn of Seward will be certain. Should the whigs carry the Senate and House this year, a will be sure to secure the latter a year hence. Besides this, they will endeavor to obtain control of the canals, the contracts, and the expenditure of the ten or eleven millions under the amendment of the consti- tution. In view of all this, how could the democra- cy suffer themselves to become divided throughout State, even if a quarrel did exist in the Legisla- ture. at head quarters here in Albany, abont the non- confirmation of halfa dozen New York harbor mas- ters, or the distribution of the spots by Gen. Pierce? Such minor matters are not to be brought in compa- rison with the mighty ruling of the Empire State. TELEGRAPHIC, MEETING OF THE DEMOCRATIC COUNCIL OF YOUNG MEN—-THE RUPTURE, ETC.
