He was one of the securities of Mr. Swartwout as Collector of the Customs, and in consequence of the unfortunate defaleation growing out of that affair, he + was very heavily implicated, and his pecuniary prospects ‘mpaired. He was, at one time, an active member of the Jackson democratic party, but disapproving of the re- moval of the deposits from the United States Bank, he + became connected with the opposition to the administra- thon, first, asone of the “rank and file” party, which , seceded from Tammany Hall, and afterwards aeting with Gideon Lee, and other conservatives, in revolutionizing ‘the State, and eleeting Aaron Clark as Mayor of the city, ‘Seward as Governor of the State, and General Harrison President of the United States. Madame Alboni appeared to be . somewhat unusually cold in her performance, and did ‘not enter into the impersonation of the Vivandiere with that humorous, rollicking spirit which she exhibited at ‘the Broadway theatre, and which so amused and capti- vated her audience. Perhaps Madame recognized that she was appearing before a more artificial class ef socie- "ty, and altered her maaner accordingly.
