DRAFER OFFERS FOR SALE $200,000 CONVERTI- 'e ble seven per cent bonds of the Western Vermont road Company, maturing in New York in 1862, and secured by a morigage on the whole property and iacome of the roud. They bear coupons for interest, payable 1st March and Ist September, and are, at the option of the holder, convertible at any time before 1860 into the capi- tal stock of the company. The Western Vermont Railroad is now completed, and in excellent working condition throughout. It is fully equipped with all the requisite rolling stock, and its traffic is Sdeqaate to pay ® good interest on its cost. This traffic fs increasing very fast, from the natural growth of the ‘business of a thriving and improving district—from its ition, which must ever command the great travel be ween New York aud Montreal—and particularly from the rapid developement of the marble quarries al mg the line the road. This section of country produces the finest marblein America. It is of various qualities, adapted to all the purposes for which marble is used. Quarries aro opening out now everywhere near the line of this road, from Kutland ‘and Marchester, and Arlington, and very large additional water and steam mills, for sawing the blocks, are in process of erection by companies of cxpi- ‘talists from Boston and Philadelphia. From this business alone the Western Vermont Railroad will soon derive an income which will render the bondholders perfectly se- ure. The length of this road is 521 miles from Rutland, southerly, through the valleys of Utter Creek and the Bat tenkill, to the New York State line at North Bennington, uthsast to Bennington village. it connects with the Rutland and Burlington, Rutland and Whitehall, and Rutland and Washington Railroads, and brings the aggregate through trafic from there roads to and over the Troy and Beston road to the Hudson river. ‘The paid up stock of 1 ut amountato.. firat issue o posed of, ox- eept the short bonds, which the com €ecided not to sell... aes And the convertible b sale, will clear off the floating debt, leaving the company proprie- tors of Afty-seven miles of excellent road, laid with heavy Trail, with depot grounds and buildings, and an ample equipment, costing in all, including the expended profits of workiog, lees than $19,000 Por mile; ‘which it in be- ls a result unparalieled ag regards cheapness of construction in New England. vey -! Since the opening of the main line of the rond, in July last, the receipts from travel, for the Great United States Northern Mail, and from the transportation of freight, which its equipment only allowed it to undertake eff. ciently later in the season, have amounted to $70,000. ‘The receipte for the current year are confidently ostima- ted at $185,000, ‘The working expenses are under 40 per cent, and the pending negotiations for running the trains under one mrnagement with those of the Troy and Hoston Company, will materially reduce these expenses and leave # net inconte of over 10 per cent on the cost of the road, whieh will make the convertible clause in the bonds now offered of great value to purchassra.
