To-day we give one more extended; but our limited space forces us to compress our statement into as small a compass as possibic. The simple facts, however, could they be presented, would be sufficiently appailing. On Tueeday last Sacramento was a city; Wedaesday morning her citizens were looking at the place she ones occupied. At the time tho fire broke out it seemed as if the elements had conspired for the destraction of the bd A norther had jast set in, and was blowing a | stiff breeze from the northwest, which, after the commenced, almost toagale. The pint where the fire started, too, was the very one for sweeping the city, and before it had been burning five minutes it became evident that Sacramento was doomed to destruction. ihe fire com promptly on tke spot; but in the face o and sea of fire. it was seen by all tl they were powerless. The flames were bursting eut of the upper windows of the building; its east ern side was rapidly yielding to their intluence, and pe Nope commended itself to the mothe od. beart for her child's safety. At this moment Mr. William P Motirath, at the peril ef his own life, wade his way through the nage aad smoks, and, by an almost superhumea effort, reached t! little child, which be bore to its mother’s arms im safety.
