The banks, to protect themselves, have been compelled to adhere strictly to the principle of re- deeming all such notes only in proportions which the part presented bear to the whcle note. The books for subscription to the stock of that part of the Canal Extension Railroad lying within the limits of Connecticut, were opened on Tuesday, at Plainville, aud the whole amount eubseribed, except a small amount re- eerved for the towns along the line. We have no- thing new in the movements of the trade to report since our last weekly review. Busineas continues active, and the jobbers are steadily reducing their stocks Most deccriptions of goods command fair prices. and the trade, generally, is in a sound and healthy condition. The Boston Journal 8: We learn that there is now in the city a batch of worth- leas bank bills, purporting to be of “Tas Hatley Bank of pada,’ and made payable at the “Bank of North America, in Boston.” ‘These bills are yet unsigned, ac- cording to the latest intormation, but our friends must beware of them, in case they ghould by any means get in- to circulation. We are authorized to state that there is no bank at “Hatley, Canada,’ but that an individual has got up the flotitions ‘pills specified, with the assistance of an engraver of this city, and has endeavored to make an ar- rangement for the redemption of said epurious and worth- less bills at the Bank of North America. We understand that notes to the amount of several thousands of dollars have already been struck off. The deposits of gold reached $4 254.000, whigh is about $200,000 more than in September last year. The coinage of geld for the month, was $4,815,153 50, more than three-fourths of the emount in double eagles. The number of half and quar ter eagles and gold dollars coined, is comparatively small, though we are informed the Treasurer has a stook on hand beyond the demand. The deposit and coinage of silver is very inconsiderable. The number of three- cent pieces coined tor the year exceeds a million and a half. We are glad to learn that there is an active de- mand for this very convenient little coin, and hope to see it drive the filthy copper cent out of use, The gold deposits for the nine months of the current year, exceed the deposits for the corresponding time last year, $4,237,- 629, The coin coming into the country greatly exceeds the amount exported.
