Albont’s Grand Gencert. ‘Last evening Metropolitan Hall was visited by a bril- Viamt assemblage of the musical diletienti, At eight @'elesk every seat was filled. It was pleasing to ob- serve the unusual spirit which seemed to characterize the commencement of the concert seasen; it gives Proof that when genuine ability is possessed byany artist, the rerult will always, under judieious manage- ment, be successful. The principal sttraction of the | night was the singing of Madame Alboni; and to particu- larly criticise her vocal abilities seems to us superfluous, ‘a6 every reader of European journals, and of our own _, Prign correspondence, is well acquainted with her tame: “in the musical world. We are not prepared to speak com. paratively of Alboni, in respect to any of the rivals with which she may have to contend; meither are we prepared to rey whether she merits the distinction of being named the greatest contralto in the world; but this we know, ‘that rhe is the best we have ever heard. Her voice is in * poMe measure a peculiar one—it is soft, sweet, round’ and melodious, possessing @ deep volume rarely to by met with, amd her execution is of the most fin- ished and brilliant style. But to the concert. It commenced at eight o'clock, with am overiure, which was exeented ina masterly manuer, under the direction of the distinguished violinist, Signor Arditi. The next feature was a cavatina. Languer per una Bella, from the opera “ Italiana in Algieri”” which was given by Signor Bapgiovenni with sweetness and taste. and elicited de- served spplause, All attention was now directed to the imtroduetion of Madame Alboni, who, when she appeared, ‘Was greeted by enthusiastic cheers. She sang the cava, tina. Una Voce Poca Fa, in delightful style, and severa; ~ bouquets were thrown at her feet. Signori Rovere and San Giovanni sang the Spanish duetto, I Mulatieri, in very good harmony, bet it was not much relished by a great portion of the audience. Signor Arditi next gave a fantasia for the violin, called * Recollections of Ame riea.”’ which comprised some very sweet national airs an | moiedies, aud was executed with great artistic ability. Madame Alboni concluded the first part with a grand zoudo, ih non Credea Miranti, from ‘“ Sonnambula;” and ‘We must candidly confess we never before heard its equal. Her execution was perfection itself, and her shakes and other ornaments were delightful, At its con clusion the stage was literally covered with wreaths and ouquets. The second part commenced with an over- > ture from the opera of the “Corsair;”” and this was suc- eecded by a charming duettino, from * Don Pasqnale,” which was rendered by Madame Albvoni and Sangiovannt with great unity and harmony of voice, It was encored, and again received with cuthasiastie cheers. The aria Duffa. I’ Compositore @’Musica, by Signor Rovere, was tolirebiy fair. ‘The terzetto from “ Belisario” was a delightful gem, The ewcet accordance of tones by Alboni, Sangiovani and Rovere. broke upon the ear in perfect, melody, and the ronde finale. Neon Piu Mesta, by Mad. Alboni, again drew forth the unanimous plaudits of an audience, who were kept spell-bound by her charming intonations. In fine the first concert of Mad. Alboni was completely suc- cersful, and gives an indication of fature extensive patron- age from the dilettante of New York We heard many ‘artivts talking of tree tickets. some asserting that there were five hundred, others that there were only two hun. dred and fifty, but allowing the first number, still the re- - sults of the concert were very profitable When the con- evrt wes concluded, and as Mad Alboni was about to leave by the Mercer street entrance. she was met at the cor by a large body of firemen, and several Italian ar tiste who bad a carrisge in waiting, She was followed to the New York Hotel by the firemen with torches in their bands and preceded by a splendid band; when they ar- rived at the hotel they played some beautiful aizs, and efter the distinguished cantatrice appeared on the bal. cory they eberred her loudly, and when we left they were proceeding to take refreshment by the entrance in Waverly Place. Potice Inteligence. Charge of Robbery.—-Officer U’Brien, of the Fourteenth ward,cn Monday night arrested a young man named Jobn Bishop. on a charge of knocking down Richard MeNulty and robbing him of $360 in bank bills on the Butchers ard Drovers Bank, consisting of three $100 dis, a $m |, aud a $10. When the officer arrested isbop, two @#00 bills on the same bank, were found in his poxcersion, which is supposed to bea part of the same money stolen from the complainant The robbery it seems was perpetrated on the night of the 28th of Au- gust in Mott street he accured. when arrested by the officer, attempted to make his escape. and the two bank bills in question he took from bis pocket. rolled them up, and endeavored to throw them away in a reac yard, when the officer pursued him and took him again into eustody.
