Mr. Wobster occu- pied & seat in the centre of the car; on his left was a large gilt eagle and on bis right framed engravings, rep- resenting the spirit of ‘76 and the Congress at which the Deciaration of Independence was promulgated, ‘The train arrived at Kingston at four o'clock presise- ly. An immense concourse greeted Mr. Webster as he | alighted. He was evidently much moved, and after bow- | Ing his acknow!edements. hewpassed into the depot, where he wasreceived by Hon. Wether. lee, Daniel Wright, and E, Wright, the committee de- puted to receive him and escort him home, At balfpast four o'clock the procession was un der way for Marshfield, For miles om either side of the route there seemed to be a general suspension | Of business, as the roudeides were thronged with bloom- ing maidens and smiling children, attiredin their holiday habdiltments. At Duxbury, many houses wore neatly de- oorated with flags The procession consisted of 160 vehi- cles, filled with farmer: and their families, Arrived at Marshfield. the procession entered the avenuc leading to Mr Wcb-ter’s house. and, by a circuit us route, pessed round the mansion wo a hill to the eastward, where a rortrum bad been erected. Here wus large guthering of Mr. Webster’s neighbors, aud th enthusiasm was unbounded : The Hon Sr1H Sraaceur made the welcome address, which was cloquent and appropriate, Ho briefly narrated Mr. Webster's public rervices, alluded to the responsible duties now devolving upon him in regard to the fishing difficulty, and cloved as follows:—When political parties with whom you have contendad shall have passed away : when private prejudioes and private intercats shall be hushed in the silence of the grave, posterity will award you the full measure of justice. As your friends and neighbors. we tender you our most sin- cere and profound respects. We thank you for what you have done for agriculture. We thank you for the valuable time you have devoted, amidst all your toils and labors, to the science of cultivating the carth—for the valuable animals you have, at so great a sacrifice, import- ed and raised to improve our flocks and herds. We re- ret our elowness to ree ond appreciate the value of your example, We are beginning better to understand our business. We have learned that science is a’ important to the farmer as to the more learned professions, We hope that you may live long to teach us the art of using ‘the piouglishare instead of the sword. and the pruning- hook rather than the spear Permit us, sir, to aay there is s Providenoe in the affairs of nations and the lives of men. Now, gentlemen, I may venture to say one or two things more wn this highly important subject. In the first place. this Budden interruption of the pursuits of our citizens which bad been carried on more than thirty years Without interruption or molestation, can hardly be jus sified by any principle or consideration whatever. Now this cannot be Justified without notice. A mere indulgence of too long Pontinuance. even if the privilege were not an indulgence, Pannot be withdrawn at this season of the year when our Speople, aocsrding to their custom, have engaged, in the Pusiness, without just end reasonable notice. I cannot out think the late deepatches from the Colonial Office had mot attraoted, to a ruficient degree, the attention of the Drinolpal minister of the crown, for T see matter in them thilte inconsistent with the arrangement made in 1845 by be Feri of Aberdeen and Edward Everett.
