Ibave this evening learned that Mr. Lawrence has had ‘ap informal correspondence with the President on the wabject; that his official resignation is now on the way to this country; that Mr. Webster has been offered the Place, and that he will give an answer, probably an ac- eeptanee, in a few days, and net return to Washington at ali hereafter, It is thought here that Mr. Webster will not accept any nomination for the Presidency. Mr. Bricur said that the credentials just received were different from those usually presented here—they eontained alimitation, While the Senator just sworn ‘would not set up any claim to the seat beyond the tino ‘imited. still it brought up a question of interest to every State, and involved a principle which would hereafter have to be decided.
