Prices ‘were well sustained, and there was considerable activ vity among the leading fancice, At the first board, Berth American Trust advaneed 34 per cont, Metropo- ‘Mtem Bank 34, Niearagua Traneit Company 2, Flerence amd Keyport 34, Dauphin Ooal Cempany 144, Norwich and Worcester }{, Reading Railread };. Delaware and Hudson declined 1% per cent. New Jersey Zine 34, Har- km 4, Stonington %;. At the second board the market ‘was remewhat weak, and elored rather heavy. New Jer, @ey Zine fell off 44 per cent, Morris Canal 1;, Harlem 4- Erie Railroad 34, Reading Railroad };. There was a mle of Uleter Mining Company thisafternoon. This is anew week on the list, and entirely unknowm im the street. ‘What mineral the company produce is yot a mystery. While the speculative epirit of the community is ad- ‘vancivg so rapidly in the direction of our mineral re- seurees, it may perhaps be well to be eautious, and care- Bishi fully serutinize the position and prospects of every new eompany presented for public consideration, It is not alone a fine title or brilliant promises that are guaranty of a dividend. It requires something more to attract and fix the attention of capitalists; and it is particularly necessary at this time, to adopt such measures as will prevent, it | NV possible, another of those collapses in the mining inte. vest which heretofore have been so frequent and so fatal. ‘The success of one mining company, whether it be eoal, won. lead, or zine. gives rise to half a dozen others, imita- tations; cach of which puts forth most extravagant statements, and as extraordinary as it may appear, many N° oT of them partially succeed in their object. We have late Jy made some progress in establishiug the mining inte- vest of this country upon a substantial basis, and have had hopes of giving it a healthy impetus, but the move- ments recentky made to put upon the market the most werthless stuff in the shape of mining stocks, have raised serious doubts in our mind relative to the success of any Rew eempany, no matter what may be its real merits. The good, bad, and indifferent are likely to be #0 mixed together, as to make it impossible to tell which is which, It iw mot necessary to name any of the companies now on ‘the list of the wild cat order, as it is presumed those who eoatemplate purchasing, will post themselyes up thogoughly before becoming involved. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port to day, amounted to $111, (44 58; payments, $05,182 22—balance, $3,615,723 41. The earnings of the Ogdensburg Railroad Company, @urivg the month of June, 1852, amounted to $48,167 97, against $30.150 87, for the same mgnth last year. In- exeage in June this year, $18,017 10. ‘The earnings of the Norwich and Worcester Railroad Company for June, this year, amounted to $21,919 53, against $21,017 47, for the corresponding months in 1851, showing an increase of $302 06. ‘The receipts of the Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincin- mati Railroad Company, for June, amounted to $73,000, | against $44,474, for the same month in 1851. Increase in Fane, 1852, $28,526. The Atva Fire Insurance Company have declared & @ividend of five per cent. The Long Island Insurance Gompany, five per cent. The Utica and Sehenectady Raliroad Company, a semi annual dividend of five dol- Jere per share on the full stock, and one of three @ollars per share on the third increase of stock, on which ixty dollars per share have been paid up. | The Greenwich and Broadway Savings’ Banks have | notified depositors that they will pay interest, at the rate of six per cent per annum, on all sums not exceeding five hundred dollars, and at the rate of five per cent on aly larger sums—payable, in cach instance, on the 19th inst The receipts of the Albany and Schenectady Railroad ompany, during the month of June, 1652, amounted to $24,170, against $20,149 for the corresponding month in 1€51, rhowing an increase for the week, this year, of $4,021, equal to twenty per cent. ‘The veceipts on the Morris Canal are steadily increas- ing. For the week ending on the 3d instant, they reach- ed $5,703 76, against $3,951 05, for the corresponding meek inst year—showing an increase for the week of $1,752 71. ‘The demand for foreign exchange, for remittance by the steamship Pacific to-morrow (Saturday), has been quite moderate, Prices have, however, heou firmly sus- | tained. Wequoie bills on London at 101, 2 1014 pe et premium; on Paris 5f. 17)¢ a $f. 15; yee “a 41; Bremen, 78's a 79; Wamburg, 36\\ a 3614. mh Paeitic will take out about half a million of specie, Counterfeit three dollar notes of the Saratoga County Bank sre in circulation. The one that we have seeni’ letter A. No 717, dated Dec. 1, 1851, payable to B- White. It is well intended to deceive at first sight, but is not caleulated to stand the test of close examination. ‘The end vignettes are well executed, but the centre vig. motte is very coarsely donc, and there is a want of finish and irregularity in the lettering of the note, which will et once attract the attention of any judge of benk paper, Counterfeit Fives on the Leicester Bank, Leicester, Masp., have just made their appearance The plate is ‘the same a+ thet used in the Claremont Bank, andthe counterfeit may be distinguished in the same manner: viv. by obsorving the water in the vignette. In the genuine the waves run nearly horizontal; in the counter- feit the water secms to be covered with §’s, The coun- terfeit is the most dangerous ever issued, and will de- ‘weivo, unless a very close inspection is given. We advise ‘those pot much acquainted with money to refuse all fives on the Leicester Bank.
