Long before this time a large body of people congregated on the Bat- tery awaiting the return of the Philadelphia. It did not, however, arrive till 845 o'clock. and the procession did not start till 4o'eloek, The remaina were removed from the *teamboat to the hearse by members of the Mlay A«voia- tion. ‘The procereion formed in the following order :— Alsrge body.of police, with their stars and staves of office, and their arms bound in crape. It was rathor a singular feature that the procession should be headed by the police force, and some of the spectators remarked tbat it ccemed as if thero was some apprebension that the body might be stolen. The object, however, was no écubt to preserve order.
