NEW YORK ITY. THE VOTE FOR JUDGES, RECORDER, SURROGATE, AND CIVIL JUSTICES. COURT OF APPEALS. Samuel A. Foot (whig)....... Alexander 8. Johnson (dem:) 18,451 Majority for Judge Foot.............+:s00 Judge Foot, it will be recollected, was ‘sila Oaate Garden Union ticket. He is now on the bench of the Court of Appeals, under appointment from the Governor: We shall not be able to examine the probabilities with regard to his election, until we get through with the more absorbing subject of ascertaining whether the whigs or the democrats have the control of the Canal Board, and the expenditure of the nine millions of dollars of canal appropriations. We should say, how- ever, that Judge Foot’s fate at this election is in the hands of the anti-renters. His sanguine friends here hope fora respectable vote in his favor from those ba- lance of power men ; but we think the ballot-boxes in that quarter will tell a sad story for the Judge, as his affini- ties are not with the Attorney General, Chatfield, the Great favorite of the anti-renters. Compared with Ull- man, the Judge runs as follows, in those counties :— 10,047 Jolson. Clima. But the anti renters, in the back towns, if they mean to elect him, ought to have given him a majority equal to that of Chatfield’s, which is 134 in the county, while Judge Foot’s majority ts only one vote. It will be observed that many thousands of voters have declined meddlivg with the judiciary tickets for the highest court in the State, owing, probably, to their absorption in the canal questicn, JUDGES OF THE SUPERIOR COURT. The election of the six members of the Canal Board, on the State ticket, is still in doubt. So conflicting are the returns, and 0 close is the run of the different can- didates on the tickets, that it is impossible to form an opinion as to the result, at this time. The Albany Argus— the best authority in the State for election returns—in giving @ table of reported majorities frem the counties, has the following remarks :-— It includes ai) the counties except Delaware. Without the vote of that county, the whig ticket has an apparent average majority of 1,941, whieh will no oa tralized, if net reversed, when the Uny be heard, Dut this table is, after cap of use as showing that the yote in the State is extremely close, and that nothing short of the official figures can the actual result. The county canvassers meet on in all the coun- ties; and the actual.result, which the election oe much in doubt as it was before, will soon known—and not before. The tibeny Journal, (Thurlow Weed’s paper.) of last evening, contains the annexed :— “ We make such farther corrections Fog and this leaves almost ot ‘ope and fear the result, The are part of each ticket is elected, the re Be all whigs but Fitshugh, and Delaware is supposed to have given about 2.000 agains Lenn ee ear 1, against the other whig as our information candidate to ui JUDGE OF THE COURT OF APPEALS. There is no doubt ef the election of Alexander B, Jobnson, the democratic candidate for Judge of the Court of Appeals. His majority over Judge Foote, who wasonthe Castle Garden Union Safety ticket, will, we think, be very large, Judge Foot runs behind the whigs on the State ticket generally. In three counties, from which we bave the full yote, the whole number of votes polled for the canal ticket, was over 67,000; while the two candidates for Judge of the Court of Appeals, receiv- ed only 61,226 votes, showing that 6,000 voters in these counties did not vote for Judge of that Court. The Maryland clection has resulted, as Father Ritchie would say, in the total “ rout of the whig forces, horse, foot, and dragoons,” and all their valuables have been captured by the democracy. Even the House of Delegates, which, from time im- momorial, has been whig, bids fair to fall into the hands of the democracy, by one or two majority. The Senate will remain whig by about two ma- jority, having been saved from the general over- throw by ten whigs to four democrats holding over from last year. The democratic State ticket is also elected entire, © ex-Governor ‘Thomas as Comptroller, who fell one thousand votes behind his ticket in this city.
