The nations! ploughing match of yesterday Ines beon succeeded by s county match to-day. There were ten premiums, amounting to $80, 950 of which was contributed by Mr. Barnum. ‘The number of teams entered was twenty-eight, just one-half of which appeared. The premiums were awarded as follows :—First, to John Bulkley, of Fairfield; second, to Isaac E. General Duryee, of thie Fifch Brigade, attended by invitation, and stated that be and his command had been invited to unite with the authorities and citizens of New York on the occa- sion, but that it would be more gratifying to do #0 with those of their city. It was resolved (hat Kossuth be in- vited to visit the city of Brooklyn as early as convenient, and that the military and civic societies, and the citi- zens generally, be requested to unite with the Comm no Couneil, to give him # hearty welcome. Their proportion of the gold on freight was considerably over one- third ‘of the whole shipment by the last steamer ‘These drafts are eepecially eee with the miners, who are willing to pay the highest rate of premium to obtain sccurity, and avoid difficulty in making remittances to their friends at home. When these | drafts are brought home by the miners themselves, they generally prefer taking them to the Westera | States, instead of bank certificates, or even —_ itself. Thie confidence is not misplaced, as Adams and Co. engege in no ouside operations whaiever, in California or elsewhere. They remit all the dust they receive for drafte, and insure every dollar they remit. The following description of Adams & Co.’s ex- office, 116 Chestnut street, Philadelphia, will interesting to those transacting business with the house, and to the public generally: — The main office is 140 feet deep by 25 feet wide. ‘The front of the office is occupied ty & counter of 74 fect in length, projecting 10} feet from the wall.
