HER FOURTH CONCERT IN THE UNITED STATRO. Catherine Hayes, the great vocalist, whose triumphs ia the musics) art proceed from conquering ¢till to conquer, will give her fourth concert at Tripler Hall to-night, and there is every reason to believe, that by the simple magis of her own genius, and without any undue efforts on the part of those who have the management ofher musica entertainments, the brilliant character of her vovali- zation will draw another array of thousands to the melo- dicus banquet. On this cecasion, an addition has been | made to the number of performers, in the engagement of Lorini and Virginia Whiting. The former is the silver- veiced teror who bas won golden opinions, and the latter ie an American vocalist, whose pearly voice has made ber @ favorite wherever she has been heard, and whose many friends will sppreciate her appearance with sueb a veealist as Catherine Hayes. Herr Mengis is to sing Lindpatnter’s “ Standard Bearer’ —a great composition by one of the most capti- vating writers of music of the German modern school— nd will, also, sing several other beautifal songs. Auzus™ tut Brabem, also, will sing the celebrated cantata, by Beethoven, “Adeisids,”’ and the serenade from “ Fra Diavole.” The orchestra has two overtures assigned to it—the one from “Zamps,” and the other from the | “Anne of Glerstein,” by Lavenu, the conductor, a com- | position of which the youthful eomporer may well be | proud. Catherine Hayes bee been very liberal in making selec- tione for herself, She will sing the zrand rcena and aria from “ Der Freyschutz,” “ Before my eyes beheld bim,’s “Casta Diva,’ Dinna think, lassie,” dnd “Tae harp | thai once through Tara’s halls.” The firet composition: | by Vou Weber, isa most brilliant one, and we presume Will give @ more complete insight into the fenvor of style and dramatic coloring of the great voculist than apytbing yet exhibited here. In “Casta Diva’ again shall we beve that firm end faultless and soul ub lalug | interpretation cf the largto, and that scintillating brigut- ness of the cataletta, which we have heard bat to honor The Scotch ballad, teo, will have ite theusand admirers. Last. not least, sgain shall wo be treated to the delightful melody of “ The harp that once | through Tara’s bails,” which was received with renewed entbusiaem by the public on Saturday night, proving one of the most brilliant triumphs ofthe evening. Yes- terday morning a correspondent, in speaking of the per. format ce of Saturday undertook to correct our state. mentae te the simple incident of a lapse of memory on the part of Catherine Hayes, and magnified it intoa mountain, charging ue with alleging that the vocalist bad “ troken down.” Such an expression is not a cha- racteristic of cur pen. The fact was named—the momen, tary forgetfulness cf the vocalist with respect to a word or two of the song—and the scene described by the cor- respondent about the vocalist’s speaking to Mr. Laveau sccme to be misepprehended, and to be unwarrented by eny of the circumstances, particularly es Ca*herine eyes herself distinctly stated, whea she left the platform, thet ehe bad lost the words for the moment ‘This correction seems due alike to Mr. Lavenu, and to the emiable qualities of the vocalist herself, who very frankly explained the interruption to her . 809R after its cccurrence. However, the delight cf the au- Giewce was not lessened, but increased by the imeident end to-night, eye that the first enthusiasm will be rexewed in all its glowing character. The concert har wlzeady excited the attention of many of our musics circles, and there is @ prospect of another thronged aa dience to hear the chief musical wonder of the dcy. Judge Thoriton, who had never before given a blow to avybody, kuocked Clark on his knees with one blow of his hasd, and with the next, knocked out one or two of Clark # teeth, and got his owm finger slightly scratched, As he come on here, the scratch became iutlamed more ‘and more until amputation of the hand became neces- sry.
