Weight of the Meraid in Wrappers. Notwithstanding the issue of a double sheet, owe are reduced, this morning, for want of space, to = very brief review of our telographic > ‘vices. ‘Three days’ later news from Europe; .ue pre gress of President Fillmore, oa his journey to Boston ; the great whig meeting at Philadelphia; ‘the Odd Fellows’ celebration at Baltimore ; the wegro riot and murder in Vonnsylvania; on dits ‘from Washington; the meeting of the oreditors of ‘Texas, in Washington City; later advices from of the markets, &c., will be found among tho mat- ter of our telegraphic column. Also, eports of the preparations fer the great railroad jobiloe at Boston, and the great State Fair at Rochester. We have also received the melaacholy iatelli_ ygence of the death of James Fenimore Cooper, ‘the most di zished of Americaa novelists. Ap interesting biographical netiee, prepared ex- preesiy for our columas, will also be found in another portion of this | paper. Whe Donaldson Correspondence—Mor> Let. ters and Moxe Light=—Letter from Sir. torcer. ‘On the twenty-second of August last, we publishg ed, in the New Youx Hxnan, a very curious, ex derzive, and interesting list of letters, and upoa the most important and imposing topie of the day. ‘The ostensible objects of this correspondence ap- peared to be the necessary arrangements for ithe time and place of holding the next Demoer: tional Convention ; but its more clearly disclosed purpose was to place Gen. Sam Llousten ia the front ef all his competitors for the democratic nomina- tion. This was all, perhaps, well enough ; but th further disclosure in the letters—eepecially of Mr. Donaldson to Mr Greer—of a deliberate dosign to van Gen. Sam Houston upon a free soil platform, ‘was not only curious and unexpected, but “ pos- tively shocking.” Wat must have boen the fec!- ings of the old bunkers in finding Martia Van Ba ven and Joshua R. Giddings mixed up ina paterns: @orrespondence with the leaders of the Natiooa: Executive Democratic Committee, may be easily imagined. Woe anticipated a stir; but the rattling among the dry bones, which these letters have osoe gioned, bas exceeded our most sanguine expects tions. In some quarters autenticity of the let ters has been qu a; iu others, the indi Viduality of Mr. Donaldson bas been doubted, and he bas been euepeczed of being a mere man of straw, Ocbers, again, have gueszed that the whole eerrespordence was a hoax, manufactured for more Swusement, by ex-Senator Westeott, of Florida, who, 2» many does the polivics of this journal. Put all denials and con _Jeotuzes ogainst the validity of these letters han feiked. We took care to be satufed of their aa thenticity in the onutect, and the subsequent ot planatory letters of Mr. Andrews, Mr. Hallett, Mr Gidding», and Mr. Brittain, whieh we have pad Mishei, vet only estabhkieh the aforesaid cor: dence to be genuine, but they throw a good deal 0! additional light upon the sabject. How «e obtaired this invalaable correspondence ‘was a question which we dotermined to leave fo fetticrcent among the democracy themeclves. An from the follewing letter from Mr. athan Greer, of lowa, wo are ina fair way of arriving « & Satiefactory solution of the mystery. When w. Teeeived this letter from Mr. Greer, we were in th midst of the universal excitement ereated by th Bret divastrvus ivtell'gence of the ill fwted expe @ition of the Pampero.
