MONBY MARKET, Tuxspay, July b—6 P.M. ‘There ie nothing new in the stock market. Trans actions today were toa very limited extent, and the feature in the market is dulness, It appears to be utterly impossible to get up any excitement among ‘the rmall number of operators still remaining in the city, and holders of fancy stocks must be contént to look on, and Jet things shape themselves for the opening of the epproeching season’s business. There is very little pro- bability of any important decline in prices for stocks generally, and it is our impression that, from this time out, there will be very little in the market value of any on the list. Nothing but a great contraction in the money markets can depreciate prices, and nothing but ‘an active speculative movement can move them upward. The Macon and Western Railroad Company have de- elared a dividend of four dollars per share on the consoli- Gated stock, and the proportionate sum of two dollars per share on that which has not yet been returned for cons lidation. ‘The Dunkirk Bank is the name ofa new institution lo- eated at the western terminus of the Erie Railroad. The Jocation of this bank is such as to secure a legitimate heme business, Its circulation is secured by United Biates and New York stocks. ‘The earnings of the Ogdensburg Railroad Company, for June, amounted to $30,156; of which, $21,077 56 was from freight; $8,257 23 from passengers, and $821 from mails, express, and rents. The Chicago and Galena Railroad is doing a good busi- mees. The earnings for June, 1851, amounted to $13,866 20, sgainst $9,953 40 for the corresponding period in 1€50, showing for the month, this year, aa increase of $8,912 60—equal to nearly ninety per cent. The following table will show the gross and net revenue of the Canada Canals, for a series of yeara:— Pentre Works or Canava, Gross. | narges. «Net. £ £04 “s a. 1847... ....50,181 16 { siooat O° anane 3 1 3948.05 55140,403 15 6-678 10 11.38 815 47 3849.215211156,20015 5 8167 3 2 49,033 12 8 SUIT 1654772 10 63g 10,661 18 7 55,110 11 1134 ‘The revenue for 1850 was received from the following sources:—Welland canal, £37,925; St. Lawrence canals £2,393; Chambly canal, £2,966; Burlington Bay canal’ £3,679; St. Ann’s lock, £807—total, £65,772. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of the United States, at this port to-day, amounted to | $253,215 45; $1,471,- ‘791 14. The steamers will take out a large amount of specie. Engagements have already been made for shipping upwards of a million of dollars; but it is pos- sible some of the orders may be countermanded at the letest moment. Domeltic exchanges, uncurrent money, and specie, re, main about the same as previously quoted. The issues ‘ef our State banks are not plenty, and the amount offer- ing for redemption is therefore moderate. The desirable character of the circulation of our State banks gives them a very wide distribution. The people of the West are particularly partial to the paper currency of this Btate, and prefer it to any other. It is, without doubt, the best secured, safest, and soundest paper currency in the world. Banks in other States, the issues of which are upon a similar basis, are, of course, equally good. This stock security system is so easily understood by al! clases, that it gives confidence to bill holders; and any amount is carried for any length of time, without the slightest apprehension. The demand for specie for ship- ment is confined almost entirely to American gold coin, which just now composes the bulk of the exportation. The mints of the United States have coined about thirty millions of dollars in the first six months of this year, end- ing June 30, 1851, most of which was gold coin of large denomination, principally double eagles. ‘The annexed statement exhibits the quotations in this market for the principal public securities, at the respective periods named :— (Er SSeeeR FS 4 BSERe ; eee igi F2ze! ee us 16 108 10s, 108 104 weer e p: > VA * SaSE! | SSKE1 Be =! OUR TRAVELLING CORRESPONDENCE. Ow Boanp Stxamentr Goupen Garx, Orr Carn Hunnvs Banday, Duly 3-1 P.M} We are thus far on our exeursion to Annspotis, having just parsed Cape Henry, which is 320 miles from New York city, and we shall soon enter the mouth of Ohesa- | peake Bay, which is 150 miles from the port of our destina- tion. We left your city at 12 o'clock yesterday, and | have averaged fourteen knots an hour, although no effort has been made to push the ship. The party consiste of about one hundred persons, and among the distinguished guests are Commodore Perry; ev. Dr. Wainwright; Ba- win Croswell, Esq., of the Albany Argus; Major Heiss, formerly hep-getdhaned Union; Lieut. Baldwin and Lieut. Walker, U. 8..N.; J.C Heart, Eeq., Troy; Major Arnold | Harris and Col, Jenn inge, of New Orleans; Joseph Hoxie> | Exq.; Geo, Law, Exq.; Jobn C. Jay, Keq ; Gerard Btuyve- sant, Keq.; W. Hl. H, Aspinwall, Esq., hie daughter Miss Aspinwall, and his two nieces, Misa Ogden and Miss Kate Ierael, and Mrs Capt. 0. P. Patterson, Going | down the Bay with all colors flying, we fired a salute and | were soon off the Nevisink, where we saw the clipper ship Challenge, creeping along with alight head wind and al} suil set, on her voyage to California. Atone o'clock the party sat down to a most refreshing lunch, and regaled themselves in a quiet way, which gave us buta foretaste of the sumptuous fare which was im re~ serve for us, for at four o'cloek the tables of the magnifi- cent dining snloon were laid with the most delicious wines and viands, and a dinner was served up every way worthy of the “Golden Gate.” In due course of thne the generous wine called forth sentiments, speeches, and songs, and the “Golden Gate,” hor captain, owners, and builders, were toasted and complimented in the most happy and appropriate manner. It will not be expected of me to give you a full detaip of all the sentiments which were drank, or of all the witty things that were said at the festive board. But in order to give you ataste of the spirit that prevailed, I Will mention a few of them. The Rev. Dr. Wainwright | gove “Steam navigation—The harbinger and the great niessenger of religion and civilization to all the corners of the world.” Mr. Hoxie, after drinking an appropri- ate sentiment, and alluding to the great progress of steam navigation, said, that in olden times it took as long to make a voyage from New York to Albany, as it. | did our sailing packets to make a voyage to E rece 6 he expected that some day there would be @ “ morning and evening line across the Atlantic.” He eoneluded by telling a joke of some wag, who, after it was known that the Pacific had beaten Cunard’s steamers, approached, an Englishman and seid, « Well, I understand th going to take all the berths out of the Pacific.” indeed.” said the Epglishman, © what's "a that for? | “Why,” said the wag, ‘ they are going to makea day- boat of ber!’ Mr. Law being called on. offered @ senti- ment, and in a speech of considerable length, alluded to the necment we had made in steamships. Five i ars ago, he raid, England boasted that if she could not: wat our packet ships, sbe could at least excel our steam- ships but experience taught her that she must yield the: palm even in this great science, to our superior talent. and genius, The Yankees had taught the world that thee was no art or science in which they could be ex- celid. Our republican form of government was becom- ng daily strengthened, and more closely united by steam, und it had become demonstrated. that steam wae the bigh road to prosperity of a nation. “The naval architect of the Golden Gate” being toasted. Mr. Webb arose and modestly responded, paying: a deservedly high tribute Lg the genius and talents of the m¢chanies of New Yor! Our gis captain, ©. ¥. Patterson, of ‘he United avy, son of the late Commodore Patterson, being celled on, made a few felicitous remarks, and modestly concluded by toasting “The Pacitic Mail Steamship Company,” which called out Mr. Aspinwall, who made ® few happy remarks, and thus sentizent and song was kept up until a becoming hoor ef \ue night, when the company withdrew to the quarter ueck. to enjoy the fine breeze and the dancing mooubeams which silvered the blue waters.
