Our readers will find in our columns to-day an interesting document, it being an answer from time since by General Houston, of Texas, on poly tical affairs generally, and on the attitude which the State of South Carolina has assumed towards the rest of the Union, in particular. The remarks ef Genern! Hamilton are cogent ani to the point, and will, we ve no doubt, be read with great mterest by the public. Summary of the Latest Intetligenee, Although but four or five working days remain of the present Congress, both houses seem to act as if the adjournment was distant as many moaths. It is much to be feared that none of the important measures on which legislation 1s so neceséary for the welfare of the country, will be passed before the fourth of March, except the appropriation bills, and there is some doubt even thet they will be passed in time. If they fail, of course an extra session will be called, and the parties who will have rendered an extra seseion necessary will be marked aud remembered in the Senate the bill for establishing an hospi- tal for wounded and dis soldiers of the United States was ordered to be ed, and the re- mainder of the day was taken up ia discussing the bil: directing that all moneys collected by the United States m in California, from the commencement of the war with Mexico, woul (he 12th of November, 1845, be paid iato the treasury of the United 3 and that the offi- cers who collected the same be directed to account forthwith.
