This company was chartered by the Obio ‘Legitisture, in February, 1847, with » capital of ome and « helf millions of doilarr, with a privilege of in- crease totwoend ahalf millions. The company has ‘leo authority to issue bonds to am amount not ex- Seeding the capital stock. This read, whem completed, | ‘will extend from Columbus to Wheeling, ® distance of 13034 miles. The first,a western division, extending trom Columbus to Zenesville, a distance of 58>¢ miles, 4g all under contract. Twenty five miles will be ready for the rail in Mey next, and the belance, 334 miles, by August or September. It is estimated that thir division of the road will cort $587,000, the whole of which is covered with the mortgage executed for 1$450,0¢0, and deposited in the hands of Geo. 8. Coe, ¥eq,, cashier of the Obio Life and Trust Company. The ‘two buxdred thousand dollars of bonds to be sold on ‘Whe 26th instant, are issuea under thet mortgage. To give » good idea of the favorable location of this road. it is only nesessary to state that at Columbus the Central road will connect at the same depot with tke Columbus and Xenia, end the Cincinnati and Cleveland roads—the Columbus and Xenia with the Litthe Miami road—a distance of 119 miles, connecting with Cincinzati— by the Little Miami road to Spring- field, connecting with the Mad River and Leke Erie ‘read. Then the Columbis and Xenia read is to bo ex- faded to Dayton—and connect there with the West- ‘ema roads;—the Terre Haute and Richmond rosd spaseing through Indianapolis, and at Terre Haute oon- mecting with the Atlantic and Mississippi road to St. Louis, The Central road will also connect with the Jeffersonville road at the west boundary of Ohio—a road designed to attract the trade and travel from the Obie river at Louieville, and from the Neshviile and Eouieville road. Again: the Central road will con- wect with the Columbus and Pique and Indiana road, which crosses the Mad river road at Urbana, and falls upon the Indianapolis and Bellefontaine road at Win- chester, where a road will branchto Perv and Chicago, and to St. Louis by Indianapolis. The Central road also connectgwith another rovd at Newark, leading to Sandusky City, and to Of; “eal very important feeder to the Central reat. fornisned, it is said, by the Cincinnati, winlett nd Zanesville read, The Central road will also com neet at the theeasterm terminus with the Baltimore spd Ohio road, and aleo with the extension of the Hempfield road, connecting with the Pennsylvania Central rosd—furnishing the shortest route between either Philadelphia or New York, end Central Ohio, Cincinnati an d St. Louis. ‘That the road will be completed within the estimated ‘eost, is shown by the favorable nature of the country through which the road pee Between Zanesville Newark, twenty-five miles, th aximum grad> (occurring only on two or three short sections) is 20 feet to the mile. There is one short curve of 900 feet radius, and two of 1,000 feet. The remainder of the Vine is either straight, or of very easy curvature. The Jine from Newark to Columbus, thirty-three miles and # helf,is but three-fourths of # mile longer than the sir line; bas only about one and a half miles of curved Mune; and the remainder straight, of from three to thirteen miles stretcb; maximum grade, 43 feet to the mile. Gravel for the road bed is very plenty along nearly the whole line. The bridges are to be Ho! patent—all the materials used and the work done to Ve of the best description. In every particular, so far ne durability is concerned, the directors are resolved to have a first clase road. By the Btate Auditor’s report for 1849, the aggregate amount of taxable property in the five counties | through which thisfroad directly passes, is $43,011,063" just one-tenth of the whole taxable property of the Btate. The population of these counties is about two hundred thousand. The aggregate of taxable property in the twenty-four counties (there being eighty-five io the State) penetrated by this road or by tributary lines struggling to make the shortest and best connec- toon with the seaboard, is $217,732.271. This is more than half of the whole taxable property of the Sta: ‘The population of the same district is probably about baltof what the State contains at this time. That the trafic of these counties with the Atlantic cities will preter the Central Ohio road is manifest, not only from the greater directness of this li but also from its greater exemption from snows than roeds nearer the Jake—the winter season, where railway facilities ca be obtained, being the time for the greatest activity in 150 do bs ‘50 Long Island RR } ° 105” («760 Harlem RR oe 400 11S, 100 1g mn 450 iin a 200 Ge 2: : 134 Pi we 3. wo eaigrtaaly Cc 8 138 Norwich Wor os 10 te 12 10 or oe oe do. 100 Parmes's Treat 160, do 6 Go) 55 Hudson Riv RR Ss 6s i Fectqaeets DD ' 68 13 6% «85 Utica & Sebe RR SECOND 70 ‘anal «64 21 70) M G0 b Co ag 7 yo 12 bs at 70 rs 10) Long Irland RR, 3, bee do yt 3m) Pertersouth DD B10 Hi 6 de i w do 300 Reading RR 00 do ta WW Nor & Wor biw th Cant SPECIAL ne NOTICES. 4 ; Fi arr iat, 01 COMMITTRE OF TUE City of New York is gratii 3 of the Uni ned 3 OF t Yo) «— NOTICE — pp mess | 2 A , Ce, EW FORK —N viel THE wal edrestcy, ae wi rar Eetior fot aa RADY.
