Strong, Esq , of Sacramento City; and to Adams & Co. and Gregory & Co ’s express, for full files of California and Panama pavers and news. The cholera has appeared in San Francisco and Sacramento City. In the former, there were but few deaths, and it was not supposed to exist in an epidemic form; but at Sacramento its ravages were more fearful. We give a list of deaths, as far as known, in another column. The returns of election, held October7, for mem- | bers of the Legislature, were not sufficiently ao- | curate to ascertain the politics] complexion of that body, as party lines were but little regarded through- out the country, nor was it known until after the | election that the duty or electing a United States Senator, in place of Colonel Fremont, would de- volve on the Legislature then chosen. | Statisties of the aoe Mephanni ‘Persons Em- ae weeks (From the Placer Fimes, Uet 4%) It is very difficult, at the preseat time, to collect formation as to the productiveness of the various | | Munes of California. Even the number of persous employed upon the various rivera, is but, to 4 limi edextent, known. Those who have travelled ex- tensively through the country, and explored the | Various rivers high up into the mouataias, of course | Can form very correct conclusions. | — But there are comparatively few who have done | thie. Most miners have but partially explored the country, and even those who have made extensive examunations, have felt but litule inclination to convey the information acquired to others, For this reason, we the more wiilingly lay the esti- | mates which we give below, betore our readers, | believing, although they are somewhat imperfect, that ibey will be of wu those who have aot had the leisure or inclination to make thorough examinations | The estimates which we give, include the min- ing region from Feather river upon the north to Cosumnes upon the south, which contains at least two-thirds of all the miners employed in the coun- tr The mining region upon Feather river, com- mences below the feot-hills Of the mountains, some thirty miles from Marysvilie, and ext. nds back upon the mountains for soinething Ike evghty miles. There are probably not te*s than 9,000 per- rone at work upon this river. The most produ tive portions, the past season, have been in the too» bills, and upon the South Fork of the river [t ie the general impression thai the sum averaged by misers upon this river has been ab ut six dollars perday tothe man. This, allowing twenty-four working days to the month, would give Jor five months, (es much probably as most ot the mitaers will Jebor during the mining season.) for each miner $120 per month, eu $600 for the five months ; producing an aggregate ot $5,400,000. The Yuba, with it tibutanes, Deer Creek, God Run, Se, has 4 population of about 30,000. The imines in this region, have, in many insta peid more than those of any other portion of Ca fornia, but there has been atarge number who beve eucceeded but poorly, which bas reduced the average to each man [o romething less than that upon Feather river. Upon this stream, we believe, the average has not been over four dollars to each person employed. This would give for the total ermount of gold dust taken out ia five montha, $14 400 000 Bear river, the next stream upoa the south, taine probably a population of three thousand stream, although no very large amoun's bave been realized by meividuale, has produced « fiir aver. e—say four dollars te each iniwer, which will give in the aggregate $1,440,000. The American river, we presume, contains & population of sixteen thousaed, distmbuted on its tributeries as fotlows:—five thousand upon the North Fork; five thousand epon the Middle For! end six thousand upon the South Fork, which, at five dollars as the average, would produce as above, in five months, $9,000,000 Thia would give, ia the agereguie, tor Feather, Yuba, Beer, end the Amencen rivers, togetoer woh their tributaries, the eum of 980 240,000, os the product of the juber of fifty-seveu thousaad persons, This sum, we believe, is as near au aver- dye of the produce of the mivee upoa the rivers named for the past five moutha, us can well be ascerteined a! the present ime. We have, in our estimate, takea but a portion of the mining regioa of Califorma, as our re a will eee, but we presume the quintity of gold 2 201 ra neighborhoods, consiitutes at least two-thirds of all the gold taken from the mines of California The quantity of gold obtaiued by miners daring the lost winter, Was ame!l proportion io what 1 ought to have been. Miners theo looked forward to the opening of spring, anticipating far richer diggings in the beds of rivere, when the waters ebould subside. J ert foimerly 0 ; Conse at Intelligence from the British West Indies, FEARFUL RAVA@ES OF THE CHOLEKRA—GREAT DEPRE- CIATION IN REAL ESTATE—LATE FROM HONDURAS AND GUATEMALA. By the steamship Empire City, Captain Wi son, we have received full files of the Morning Journal and Colomal Standard, published in King- stop, Jamaica, but we do not find im them any news of interest to our readers. We regret to learn that the cholera is making the most fearful ravages throughout the British ‘West Indies. It has been very fatal at Kiagston, Jamaicn, but is now more severe in other parts of the island. Kingston is reported to have lost 5,000 by thet disease, and a proportionate number at Port Royal; it had entirely disappeared from the latter place. The most melancholy accounts are received from the interior and agricultural districts. The Journal says » in the Piantain Gardea River distict, Ope thousand persons have been swept away by the fell destroyer. Lt states that:—* From Sc. David, fnghttul accounts have been brought to town. Notonly have the great mass of the popula- tion between the Eleven Mile tavern and Yuliah’s, und a large number of the Elsington been ewept away, but itis said whole police force, sergeants, corporals, and pri- jes, bave been iomolated—the whole force dying, #8 it is said, under literal want of suste- Bunce, im consequence of the non payment of their ey.
