Louisvitte, November 30, 1850. One of the most appalling and destructive torne- does which bas been experienced in the Mississippi ‘Valley for several years, occurred about two o’clook in the atternoon, It swept over the town of Cape Giraradeau, Mo., si- tuated on the Mississippi river, just below St. Louis, and demolished some reventy or eighty buildiogs, mapy of them the finest and principal business houses in the place. ‘The Baptist and Catholic churches, and the Catholic eonvent were destroyed. ‘Two of the large and did telegraph masts be- Jonging to the St. Louis and New Orleans Telegraph Company were crack: shivered, and brought to the | ground with as much ease as though they had brea pipe stems. ‘The steamboat Saranac, No. 2, which hai just Founded to at the wharf, had her upper works com- pletely blown off, and several persons on her were se- verely injured, and some, it is probable, were drowned. ‘The whart boat was likewise blown from her moor- ings, and almost irreparably injured.
