‘@f Mine, corn not jess than three hundred to four bun- @red thousand dollars, ‘The New York oud Erie Raflread will be completed ‘to Dunkirk, on Lake Erie, in May next; and from Buf- falo to thet point, and thence to Cleveland, in the Btate of Obio, the entire lime of railread is progressing Dy different companie-, and under various eharters, and is all under eontrect to be completed during the Year 1851. At Cleveland commences the Oleveland snd Columbus Railroad, which « now in operation for & considerable distance, extending westerly trom @eveland, nearly parallel with the lake shore, about B84 miles. Two different companies are organized, and Baving tecured the requisite means, are preparing for the immediate construction of the remaining link, from the Cleveland and Columbus Road to Toledo, the ‘one an interior reute. by the way ef Wellington and Worwaik, and the other nearer the loke shore, and by the way of Sandusky City. The speedy completion of he entire line from New York to Toledo is thus doubly seeured. From Toledo to Adrian, (a distance of 38 miles), the Erie and Kalamasoo Road is built, and ts operated by the Miebigan Southern Koad, under a per- manent lease. At Adrian the continuous line from New York will conmect with the Michigan Southern Road, which is now in operation to Jonesville, and ‘will, aa above stated, be completed and opened or use to Sturges’ Prairie the present fall. By the spring of ‘1861. it will have been extended to the St. Joseph’s river and the State lineof Indiana. There it will oon- nect the north Indiana Railroad, extending to Miobigan City, most of the means to ensure the con- struction of which are already seoured. West of Michi City, to the State line of Tllinols, the con- struction of the road has been commenced under an existing charter, and is under contract to be completed within a year from the present time; and the only re- maining link of 14 miles, from the east line of Illinois to Ghieago, will be constructed by s company organised nder the General Railroad Law of that State. From hieago, westerly, the Galena and Chicago Union Reil- road is built, and in successful operation for 42 miles, and is to be immediately extended fifty-four miles further. Here isa continuous chain of railroad reach- img trom the Atlantic to the Mississippi, a distance of early twelve hundred miles, the various links of which are so far advanced &s to render it almost cer. tain that the entire line will be completed within the ext two or three years, It will be seen by the above statement of facts, that the security offered by this company is ample, and equal to that offered by any other railroad eompony in the eountry. Railroads favorably looated in the Western section of the Union, have a wider margin for improve- ent than those of the Bast, in districts havin; population. Every Western or Southern rail- road that is now at all productive, must, as the coun- try threugh which they pass becomes more thickly populated end ite resources become more fally red veloped. be the most profitable works of the kind in the world.
