THE CALIFORNIA MAILS, THE MAREHBTS, Wo., &o., Be The steamship Philadeiphia, Captain Pearsen, arrived yesterdey moining, at seven o'clock, from Chagres, with two weeks’ later intelligence from California. The P. left New York on the 13th July. | On the 6th, 17th, aad 18th, she encoun- tereda heavy gale from the eastward ; aud on ‘the morning of the 16h, she shipped a heavy sea, which stove bulwarks, &c., slightly injuring seve- ral ef the passengers, aud brenking the leg of Jaa. Lief, seaman. On the evening of the sume day, Joseph Hall, seaman, fell overboard aad was lost ; and on the day following, Arthur Hawkias, fireman, | odied suddeaty from congestion of the brain, caused by being overheated. She reached Chagres on the evening of the 26th, and was detained there thir- ‘teen days, awaiting the arrival of the Tennessee at Panama, from Sao Francisco. The Philadelphia left Cnegres August Sth, at 10 A. M., and arrived at Kiegston, Jamaica, at 6 P. M. on the 10th. She left Kingston at 8 o'clock, A. M. on the Mth, and arrived off Saudy Hook att o'clock A. M. ov the 2ist, making the passage “home in nine days and four hours, ranaing time. On the 17th August, latitude 27 deg. 14 min. north, longitude 72 dey. 35 min west, she spoke steamer Cherokee from New York for Chagres ; all weil.
