It went directly forward. At Pontiac, Michigan, to the 20th ult., over 2,000,000 Ibe. of wool had been purchased of the clip of 1850. In Brooke County, Va, the clip has been good, and mearly all the best sold at 40¢. per lb. Some of su- perior quality was takem at 450., and for a few lots, very and clean, 50c. was asked. At Wheeling, there have been free arrivals and much setivity in wool. The sales ranged at 20c. a 37340 for general receipts, but some small lots superior had brought 400. Bome time ago, the Wool Grower speculated as fol- Jows, indicating 65,000,000 lbs. as the quantity which ‘will probably be wanted the present year for domestic cousumption, “ New England contains, at this ti woollen factcries, capable of consuming. fall operation, thirty-five million pounds of wool. To supply A quantity she has the surplus received throngh the New York canals, three-fourths of the importations, about one-quarter of Pennsylvania re- eeipts, and the surplus from her own wool growers: New York canals, 12,731,402 lbs.; New England surplus, sey 5,000,000; importations, 18,401,000; X Peanayl- vania receipts, 1,280,000. Total for New England 22,412,002 Ibe, “New York produces about twenty millions; end there was received from the West, by the way of Buf- falo, eight millions and a quarter more, which would leave about eight millions, after deducting the amount reoeived through the canals, for home consumption, But to thisisto be added sbout four millions of fo- veign wool, making « total consumption of at least twelve millions, Pennsylvania and New Jersey con- sume about ten millions more, and the consumption In all other States will make about six millions more. It would require, then, for the consumption of the manufactories, for the coming year, if the fabric should bein brisk demand, not less than sixty-five millions of pounds.”” In Macomb, Michigan, about 100,000 Ibs. wool have been purchased this year already, which is double the product of that county in any previous year, The average price has been about 30 cents per Ib. ‘The shipments East from Buffalo, the last two days of June, amounted to 174,600 lbs. Our Canadian neighbors are bestirring themselves very actively upon railroad projects, and seem dis- posed to invest » considerable amount of capital for the extension of their railroad system. The Champlain and St. Lawrence Railway Company have got their Dill threugh the Council, at Toronto, and the friends ‘of the enterprise firmly believe in the speedy exten- s1om of the road. The company have commenced breaking ground, and the work is to be finished in ninety days. This route is a short one, twenty-three miles in length. Over « more favorable country no road could possibly extend. The survey present® fs dead level grade from begin to terminus, free from « tingle hollow or embankment of more than four feet in depth, with the exception of two email ravines which it crosses and intersects. The road bas been in operation for fifteen years from Laprairie to St. Johns, and will now extend ships, with the States contigaous, shire, Vermont and New York, and through abe with the Ports of Boston, Portiand New York. The Montreal Herald says 'd operation, the tr: will convey to Montreal, in one uninter- of the West, of Western Canad nd of the great and growing Mining nts on Lake Supenor, the Lumber trade of the Otiawa and all the collateral branches of trade growing out of it or connested with It; the produce of the extensive and fertile peninsula lying between the Ottawa and St, Lawrence, on the line embraced Detween Grenville on the former, and Prescott on the latter river ; and, lastly, the resources and trade of the natural ‘back country’ of Montreal, comprised in the Two Mountains, and Ottawa. All this, it is cont the projected ‘extension of the Montreal and Lachine Railroad to Grenville and Hawkesbury on the Ottawa, and from thence to Prescott, on the St. Lawrence.” With the great combination of river, lake, and canal navigation in Canada, one ‘enterprize is much required by the people of Montreal. They wish to cut a cana; to connect the waters of the St. Lawrence with Lake Champlain. Some fanit is found with the proprietors for not earrying on this affair, and the government has been urged to take the matter up, and to complete the ennal. It is proposed to pledge the tolls, and the crediy ‘of ibe province, to accomplish the wor! A connection between Quebeo and Montreal is aleo proposed. This would be effected by # junction with the St. Lawrence ‘and Atlantic Railroad, at Melbourne, on the St, Fran- seeme very feasible. Other projects are, also, advoeated with much seal. They are ali con- nected with the net work of rails in our States, as will be seen by some further description of them. There la first, the St. Lawrenee and Atlantic Railroad, com- encing at Longueutl, opposite to Montreal, and which ogresses daily and rapidly to its termination at Port nd. in the State of Maine; secondly, the St. Lawrence 4 Take Champlain Reiirond; and, lastly, the Lake ft Louis and Province Line Rait-oad, projected to commence at the Indian village of Osaghnawags and to extend to the frontier, there to eoxnect with the Montreal and Piattsbargh Line, and by aneh connection commanicnte directly with the Ogdensburgh Zailraed and the fioutiéhing town of Fiatteburgh om Lak, Champlain. ‘This line wili, doubtietly, be eontinued | from Plattsburgh to Whitehall, at the southern point of Lake Champlain, and ultimately form a direct line of communication between this city and Montreal. From the remarkable fucilities of communication with Mon- treal, by the Mentreal and Lachine Railroad, and by ferry from Lachine to Caughnawage, the Canadians connot help regretting that this last mentioned line of railroad had not been the first commenced. | Stock Exchange. | $2000 US és, "C7 63 5 $5000 | 10000 eH LBA 100 ahs Loan, | 440 ; 1008 60 78! 5000 Cy boo 79 10000 BO Dp 100 60 79! 2000 Obi Wo bw 79 2000 Rea Bs 79 12000 do '70 73. do 160 2000 do 0s 3 Mobawk RR & 60 luvs, 2 Harlem Ki 60 10000 lo 100) do 260 BS 300 Income Bont M1 780 Canton Co 690 47 912 100 Morris Canal 15} 2000 Frie Bae, 63 107” 200 Reading Rk BOO 48 16600 Hudson Riv Bde 1 “| 12000 Indiana si * 2) ll | ay 19% | Bs | 60’ We 45 ‘ 5 19 ¥ a abs 0 w do § bo Morris Canal” “1523 | 6 do tO BOE ————— eee ADVERTISEMENTS RENEWED EVERY DAY. __ FUNERAL OF GENBRAL TAYLOR, HA NEW TORK, JULY 12, 1850.—AT A MEBT- if the ible NEW, of ariangemenis Sppointed by the {erMiate Precluent of the United States, held in room 4, lly ‘Mall, ‘his day, the following resolutions of 1 it procession, to be composed of th he differen: orderm, socteties, and eltivens of Ni v dork Mixa the adjoins sn and towns, on Tuesday, the 234 Instant i low cititens, as fenerally, nd the dt trades, associations, an: are ak and He KY omy of respect to oad; enh, cadiatias tod eoessistions tabentiing oe requested to communicate te the Comlites om pa Pujacy seat, a8 fre relock F. INTELLIG ENCE BY THE MAILS, Oar Washington Correspondence, Wasuinoron, July 14, 1850. The New Administration—The New Cabinet— Things in a Good Trim—The Texas Protest, e., He. The new administration comes in with a very general confidence of all parties; and with @ very large expectation from ali parties of a successful couservative policy. ‘The first important point is considered to be set. tled, and that is, that all of the Galphins will have 10 go, every one ofthem. This is abselutely neces sary for a good beginning. The second step has yet to be resolved upos, sine the eabinet to be selected in lieu of the cabinet re ected. A good deal of doubt exists as to the acceptanee, by Mr. Weoster, of the premier's portfolio. We hear that for the present he will not accept, and that Mr. Winthrop will oe appointed Secretary of State. In the event of M ebster’s declination, Mr. Winthrop would, dcibtloan; be as good a se- lection as could ibly be made. Ex-Governor Jones, of Tennessee, for Secretary of War. A and jean ppointment. Judge Hopkins, of Alabama, Attorney General. He is said to be one of the chunetinervernis the coun- try, and has been for twenty. five years disti as such at the Alabama bar; but there will be no room for the Judge, if the prineiple is to be of selecting the cabinet from such States only as cast the'r electoral votes tor Taylor and Fillmore. | But with the cabinet still in the chrysalis, we have every reason to believe that it will be amable, polar, national, conservative establishment. he next question, and one of the highest im- rtance, is, what will be the platform of the new Executive, on the slavery question ? Here, also, the indications are good of a com- promise attitude, oo some such basis as that already defined in recent telegraphie despatches to the era This is a most significant sign of a broad, na- tional policy, uniting and cementing the whig party asa national party, and making the settlement of the slavery dispute a campromice at the inscance of the administration. In a few days the President will be expected to submit a message to the two Houses, on the gene- ral affairs of the nation ; but, at all events, he will be called upon to give certain information to Con- ess_in regard to the pending quarrel between. Kew Mexico and Texas.
