There werg rales to some extent of Harlem and Read- ing raijronds, but there are no indications of any im- provement in any of the fancies, beyond whut the brokers may get up among themselves. It will be seen by our quotations, that-such fancies as Reading Rail- road, Farmers’ Loan, Morris Canal, Long Island, and Canton, have already reuched the culminating point, and are on the downward course, while Brie and ‘Har- Nem have long since paseed points where it would be te purchase, even at the height of » great specu- tive movement, These are the only two fancics in Met prices for which have been sustained, and the ital and credit of more than two-thirds of the bulls A the strect are concentrated upon these stocks, for purpose of inflating them as much as possible. rhe babble has already beeome dangerously inflated. An important point in relation to the Mability of holders of banking corporations, is noticed by the jew Or'e.ns Picayine, as recently decided in that city Judge Buchanan. A biliholder of the AteBafalaya jank, who is not a stockholder; ened a stockholder who not paid up his capital stock, for the amount of bills, The stockholdet answered that he was also ling notes of the bank to on amount equal to his paid subscription, and claimed to be allowed to eom- neate these bank notes against his indebtedness. the prineiples recognised by Chief Justice Bharkey 1d Judge Btory, Judge Buchangn decided that the iff was entitled to recover'on this isene. Wasuineton, May 10, 1850, The Cabinet Sentenced, and waiting the Day of “ Bxecution—The Galphin Claim—The Republic— The Whigs and Old Zack—The Compromine— The South, and the News from Califorwia. The cabinet have to go. They can’t stay General Taylor has acknowledged the éorn. His eyes have been opened—his ears have been opene@ —and he now sees the state of the case, and cam listen to advice. The eredulity of the good old man in his cabinet is broken up, and he really begins to think that Bennett has been telling the truth all along—that the cabinet is weak—that they have deceived him—that they have neither the confidence of the party nor of the country~— and, worse than all, that they are corrupt. What has done all this! The most potent pieoe of work has been the Galphin claim and the Galphin investigation. At tirst it was all smooth enough, and the Iniellrgencer and the Republic proclaimed the cabinet and the President a per- manent unit. But, as the investigation proceeds, it gets worse and worse, and to-day the report is that the report must be an impeachment of Craw. ford, and all concerned. Make way, boys, for the committee, There i¢ the very devil to pay, and no pitch to doit. Black, indeed, must be the concern which cannot be whitewashed: lence the re articles in fhe J Re- public. e leade Yr, in yesterday’s paper, orde: the cabinet to resign, was 5) pars That a} Bullitt. He is true to Old Zack, and does ‘mot wish him sacrificed. It was.a red ‘hot shot “me into the magazine. What a scatteration! As as their legs can carry them, pell mell, the cabinet hurry off to the White House. Old Zack throws cold water on the bumb-shell—he calls up Bullitt and Sergeant—a sort of trial ia held, and the scene yesterday was said to have ‘been exceedingly “1ich. “But the mischief is done, and there is no use of explaining now. But to see the wie of Congress yesterday! The were so wath ou would have thought the mi col lennium hi me, or that the cabinet had ac’ anny resigned. Tave you seen the article in the Rep lic 2” “Is Bat crazy, or is old Zack coming to his senses?” “Something’s broke. What im the name of God shall we have next 7” “Bullitt’s @ whole team, when he lets out. Me has been lazy, Le he finds it’s time to be stirring, and gemini how he makes the wool ff me have a French directory meeting in Re White-House to-day. A revolution has come upon them, and there is trea- eon among themselves.” “If this be treason, let them make the worst of Gentlemen, let us thank God, that there once lived an old colonial trader by the name of Galphin! Immortal in his- tory be the name of Galphin! A dead man in his grave—dead and buried for half a century, has saved the whig oi ” Such were some of the exela- mations of the whigs in Congrese, yesterday And 80 4 cabinet ready galvanized, i d. All honors to the memory Iphin, the old Indian trader of the evlony and his bill of nine thou po Sat the interest thereon of Lebar tag years, 000! What a God-send to the Treasury has oe ea learned Attorney General! — Let us pray? In one word, the investigation of the Galphin Committee is awful. If we are to believe the cur- rent reports, there ie no hope of esc: og must be condemed directly ty thie claim. he Ewing investigation appears to be of the same caewiag ery asoe Old Zack is warned of it. Republic fires a gun to the werk, The whigs prick up their ears ; and it seems to be understood that the cabinet are only waiting the sentence of the House. It is impoesible, with this revolutionary eondition of things in the ‘cabinet, to predict the fate of the compromie in the Senate.
