Monday, March 11—6 P. mM. ‘The buoyancy in the stock market still continues, At the first board there were large sales, and several of ‘the leading fancies advanced considerably. United States 6's went up 3 per cent; Erie Bonds, new, 3}; Erie Railroad, 134; Norwich and Worcester, %;; Morris Canal,1}4; Canton Company, }4; Harlem, 3<; and New Haven Railroed, x. Indians 6’s, and Reading Rail- road, fell off { per cent each. Most of the transactions ‘were for cash. The bulls are getting the steam up pret- *y fast, and the probability is, that ene of these days, there will be a collapse amd wide-spread destruction ‘mong the pleasant and agreeable calculations formed by holders of fancy stocks. ‘The engineers who work the machinery of fancy @tooks are getting u; amount of steam on Reading Railroad amd Morris Canal, that threatens an explosion @hortly, which must prove disastrous to all engaged in 3%. To all who may have purchased at lower prices, ur advice is, realize your profits before the originators Of the scheme begin, and don’t let them leave you, this time, in the lurch. On Saturday, Morris fell ‘Mhree per cent in as many hours, and when Reading Dbegins to break, there is no predicting how rapidly it ‘will give way Itis very easy to realise your profit ‘while those who planned the game are still interested in keeping up the price; but as soon as they have ac- complished their object, (and no one knows at what moment this may happen,) it will wilt away so fast, ‘that in the rush to get out, all the fancied profits vanish. Each time this trick has been played, those ‘who bave suflered can hardly realize their infatuation when they look back; and we would now caution all concerned to take time by the forelock, and not be left hhigh and dry when the tide begins to ebb, a laughing stock to the very parties who got them into the scrape. The trick bas been played sufficiently often, and has become threadbare enough to epen the eyes of the most confiding. All we oan ray is, “look out for the engine while the bell rings,” and get off the track before it Is teo late. The figures we published short time since in reference to the Readizg Railroad, showing that with an inorease ef capital, in three years, of nearly five mil, Mons, the net income had diminished, proves conel! sively that the late rise is not legitimate, but is a bub- Die, like all Wall street bubbles blown up by interested parties, to deceive the unwary, The only stcck or security in the list, in which the improvement is likely to be perma- ment, is Erie second mortgage bonds, and it is our impression that they will advance to within three or four per cent of the current price for the first mort- gage bonds. There is no good reason why they should not, for if the stock is worth anything, the second mort- gage bonds are worth as much as apy other seven per cent security in the market, As regards the two mortgages, the difference is triding. The great length of road and the immense value of the property belong- 4ng to the company, the whole of which is pledged for ‘the security and payment of the two olasses of bonds, is sufficient to protect them against almost any contin- gency; the only exception isthe ples of usury; and pub- lic opinion bas lately set so strongly against that me- thod of liquidating indebtedness, that no board of di- rectors of any railroad or any other company, (not even Long Island, Morris Canal, and wejmight say the North American Trust, if it had » board ef direotors,) dare put in such & plea. Public opinion is much more pow- erful than any act of the legislature, and, hereafter, ‘wo to any man, or set of men, that attempts the repu- diation of an honest and ‘timate debt, upon sucha paltry, mean, contemptibl bterfuge, At the second beard, Erie Bonds” old, adva! per cent; Reading Railroad, 34; Erie Bailroad, F mere’ Loan, 4. There were larger transactions thi msual at the afternoon board, and the market closed tin ‘Chas, Carter, Chas. B. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-day, amounted to $77,000. Payments, $89,365 66. noe, $3,745,585 11, The transfers of \ nited States Stock on forelgn so- count, during the week ending the Sth instant, amount. Markets received by the Canada, Sesers.
