During the morning we had occasional sprinkles of snow, interspersed with sunshine. In the evening there was regular hail storm, accom- panied with loud claps of thunder and the most vivid flashes of lightning This continued until about 8 o’ciock in the evening, when the moon shone out bright and clear. The Friends’ yeurly meetings, which have just closed in thie city, attracted great attention, es- pecially to hear the sermons delivered by the brethren and sisters The Rev Mr Backus, of the Presbyterian ehurch, in this city, states that the amount eontri- buted by the congregation of his church, through Very Lato from Mexico. ‘The steamship Teviot, Capt. The lutest date from the city of Mexico is of the 18th ult. ‘The insurrection of Sierra Gordo is ended. The insurgents, disheartened by their losses, have come in from all quarters and made their submis sion to the government, whose moderation towards them hus not tailed to produce a good effect. While sitting at home, yeaterday after- noon, he received « note (nigned George Jehason), briefly informing him that hie son, who, by the way, aseiete him in his editorial labors, had, a few hours previouely, eecidentally shot himself through the heart, while out guouing in the meighborhood of Red Bank, N. J. Although instant death was pro- duced, the writer kindly and politely infermed Col. W., “ your son Frank died very easy;” a fact which no one felt inclined to dispute, conmdering the nature of the wound. The family were, o course, mameciotely plunged im the deepest dis tress, and Co'. On The 28th of September, it was discovered by the goverument that a great number ef military officers had teft the cuy of Mexico, with the ia- tention of proceeding to Toluca, where arrange- ments had been made for a general insurrection against the government. In consequence of ¢ intelligence received by the goverament, a great number of arrests were mude in the city of Mexico on the night of the 2st. It was said that a certain priest, a chamiene or canomicus, a mau of disrepu- table manners, bad contributed a thousand ounces of gold towards the contemplated revolution. Government rrp sent off a troop of 200 men, with three pieces of arullery, to the scene of action. Some of the journals of Mexico affect to be- lieve that there 1# no real foundutioa for any of the reports of revolutions being meditated, and attribute all that has taken place in this way, to the ingenuity and invention of Arista, the Minister of War. Be this as it may, several officers, in aud near Toluca, as well ax in Mexico, have beea promptly arrested, and the outbreak, if real, has een, 60 far, put down. | Meanume, "he rebelchief Ramureg, who had raised the standard of revolt at Sierra Madre, has been de- feuted « second time, and hie tollowers scattered to the four winds. Quiroz, another insurgent, has fied to Huestria, and is being rigorously pursued. ‘The insurrection may be considered as completely put down, by the vigorous measures of General e nd the troops under him. etaro, the scene and theatre of great mauc events, seems to be going ahead.
