In our last despatch we gave you some statistics of Lewell, the chief manufacturing city of the Merrimack, and while these details render it unue- cessary to give similar exhibits of other places of a like’ character, it is but justice to the Merrimack river to say that Lowell dees not, perhaps, embrace one-half its manufactures. Twelve miles below is the city of Lawrence, of 12,000 population—a city ‘which has grown up from the fields within the last four years. It is chiefly appropriated to woollen manufactures. Fifteen miles above Lowell is Nashua, and fifteen miles further up is Manchester, a place of some seven or eight thousand popula- ‘tion, which has onmag up since the election of James K. Polk.
