Tho views of speculators, relative to the foreign demand for our breadstuffs have recently undergone no material alteration; and the receipt of later intelligence is de- sirable, before entering into any extensive shipments, Much depends upon political afairs in the north of Europe, and the prospect of receiving supplies from the great grain-growing countries of the Continent. In tho event of the Danish difficulties being arranged, and the Ports of the Baltic opencd, the English markets will bo better supplied with breadstuffs from these sections, and we may look for a further depression in prices; but on the contrary, if the embargo continues, and the weather in Great Britain proves unfavorable, we may look for an improvement in prices, and, consequently, a more active shipment from this port. The intelligence received by the Europa had 4 ten- dency to stiffen the market for breadstuffs, and holders were by no means anxious to make sales at prices current previous to the accounts transpiring. The only item o¢ breadstuffs which had improved, was Indian corn; but the market was steady for other descriptions, and the complexion of things generally was such as to encou- rage holders on this side. Tho faliing off in receipts at this port from the interior, has, no doubt, had .a ten- dency to inerease the firmness of holders, and it is high ly probable that any extensive demand for export would improve prices very materially. It will require an advance on current rates to bring out supplies; and even in the event of the European demand diminish- ing. prices must improve. Producers will not forward their products without being guarantied remunerating prices, and those now ruling for flour can hardly be considered up to that point. Indian corn pa; t pre sent quotations, and we have no doubt, throughout the season, the arrivals of this grain will be large, and the shipments to foicign ports large. The European de- mand for Indian corn is entirely independent of loca influences, and is not governed by those causes that affect prices, &., for other descriptions of breadstuffs. We do not, therefore, look for any diminution in the supplies of this article, and our exports will be better maintained than we could otherwise expect. ‘The exports from Philadelphia for the week ending the Sist of May, inclusive, showing also the extent of shipments to cach place, were as annexed :— Commence or Puttavetrnra—Weexty Exronts.
