ee rae —_ NO. 5394. “THE pousLeE HERALD. NOoTIOK: TO ADVERTISERS. Hew Movement in Newspaper Advertising. ‘The extensive establishment of the New York Herald fe now complete in all its parts. Duriog the last fow onthe, vast improvements in the eonstruction of new Wwachimery, and other details, have been made, which involved aucxpomse to the proprietor of forty thousand Goilars. Those eminent machine makers, Messrs. Hoe &Co, furnished us with this new machinery, on & new plon; and it is, we believe, without parallel, im e'ther Europe or America. Messrs James Conaor & Son, type founders, are now engaged in finishing a Rew font of type, which will come into operation ina flow duyo, These improvements will enable us to print, with equal facility, a jle or = double sheet, st the Fatio of nearly ten thousand copies per hour, Qur daily edition, of nearly twenty-five theusend copies, can nuw be eustly printed in about two hours and @ Aelf. No other newspaper establishment in the world, with the exception of the London Times, can command such maclinery, or produce such results in daily journal- fom. ‘These are the means and instruments with whieh we now go to work, to improve and enlarge the eaps- ities of a daily newspaper. We are enabled to offer to the business community of all classes, advantages, 2m the way of advertising which no other journal im ‘the country can present te their consideration With the present form of our iseue—a single sheet—our ea- pacity has been limited, much tothe regret of alarge portion of the business community, who have, again ‘end again, wished to publish their advertisements 1 journal possessing the comprehensive cireulation whieh the Herald hus smong the mereantile and usiness people of the country, not only in New York, but in every city and State in the Union, and through- out Europe. ‘We beg, therefore, to state to the publi, of all elasses, that we begin the issuing of a Gouble ebest, for which ‘we shail reseive advertisements, at « reduction of fifty per sent frem the rates now charged in the single sheet— ell such advertisements to be inserted in the double sheet, along with the reading matter that will be necessary to fill up the journal> The existing rates for advertisements in the inside of the single sheet, and the plan on which they are received, baving received the approbation ef the public, willremain as they have been for the last fuw months. That this plan and the, rates for advertis- ing in the single sheet, have beem satisfactory to the community, we entertain no deubt, frem the fact that since we commenced that system our advertising patronage hes doubled, and in numerous instances more than doubled. ‘The distinct proposition which we now make to the business community of all classes, will, we hope, be @ieariy understood. We can publish s double sheet every day, with the same facility with which we now publish the single sheet ; but the introduction of an extended and cheapersystem of advertising, which the double sheet will provide, must have # beginning be fore its advantages oan be realized by the community; and of course we intend to begin the new movement this system of advertising, by first collecting s sufficient number of advertisements at the proposed rates for the doubie sheet, and of issuing that sheet only when that sufficient’ mumber sball have been obtained, By this process we shell first publish a double sheet, with this new class of advertisements, onee a week, eecerding to the patronage offered by the public, and ae that patronage increases and presses om us—which we have no doubt it will—we shall be enabled topublish double sheet twice a week, and gradually extend it, until we shall publish a double sheet every day in the week. When this point is reached, the New York Herald, double sheet, at two cents per eopy, will be the cheapest newspaper in the world. ‘This we conceive will be the easiest and most prae- ticable method of introdacing this extended system of advertising, which we contemplate, to the eonsidera- tion of the business community of New York and the gurrounding cities. The first double sheet of the New York Herald Is published this morning, and we beg to call the atten- tion of business men ef all kinds—merchants, shippers, jobbers, marine and insurance companies, associations, booksellers, venders of medicinos of all kinds, dry goods dealers, fancy store keepers, and in fact all classes en- geged in the diversified business of New York end the edjecent cities and towns to it, and to state that we are prepared to receive their advertisements at our office, om the morthwest cormer of Fulton and Nassau streets, to be inserted in any future double sheet, ot fifty per cent less in price than thoee which we publish in the of the single pheet—e reduction which {s of the greatestimportanes to the businers classes of this great city. Those ad- vertisements will be displayed ina reasonable way, enlculated to attract the attention of the reader. inside ES TO FARMERS AND MARKET GARDENER: PakeD UUANO AT OSE VERE PER, POUND — WE id eel the following cercifioate: tw Streyerve truane tobe nore sConta aan obtained Of Synod.
