Osace Nation, August 17, 1847, I came into this country last evening, after an absence of nearly three months. I find that all the Osages hevo returned from their summer excursion to the plains, where they went to meet the Cainanches and other tribes of wild Indians; also, for the purpose of laying in a supply of buffalo meat tor the months of August and September, which isusual with them every season. They bought or traded for about seven hundred mules, ‘They were with the Camanche Indians several days, trading and counciling. They found the Camanches encamped on hoth sides of the Arkansas river, some four or five miles below the crossing of the Santa Fe road, in asecluded place. ‘There are with the Camanches, parts ofsix other nations—in all, about one thousand lodges, or about three thousaud warriors. While in council with the Osages they told them that tho Soaniards had advanced them large droves of mules and horses, besides oonside: money, to watch and kill or destroy all Americans and property of all kinds that passed that road. They are to be well paid for every white man’s scalp, and every ox’s tail. They will remain at that place until this moon ig over; then they uae to travel west during the fall and winter. Early in the spring, when the grasa is three to four indhes in height, they are again to take their stand at their old place, on both sides of the Arkansaa river. In fighting they press their prisoners inthe front rank, and after the first discharge of American arms, they make the charge. They have been seen by the Osages herding large droves of cattle, mules and horses, which they have taken from the Americans They are herding them near the Arkausas river, some fifteen miles below the road ‘They spoke of having had a fight with the Americans far south. The army had two large cannons, and des- troyed # great many of their people. From what | can learn, the Osages have not had a hand in robbiag and killing the whites P. 3.—The Camanches have a great mavy prisoners, whom they used as ela ‘They are principally whites, women and children, are stripped and painte black, and generally on foot.—St. Louis Revielle.
