Fucetvations ix Baxapsturrs.—The fall in the prices of breadstuffs within a few weeks past bas been rapid and extreme, says the Baltimore American of the 10th inst., and exhibits @ degree of sudden fluctuation in value which is probably without precedent. On ‘change yesterday morning. a Western farmer, who had been tempted beyond the safe and quiet confines of his broad and productive acres into the uncertain whirl- ool of the grain market, offered for sale @ lot of 6000 Bushels of handsome Western flat corn. During the rule of the high prices of and June, he purchased this roperty at 91 a 93 cen bushel.’ Now he asked but 4a 55 cents, and was olieced, as the very highest figure. 92a 63 cents! At this he probably sold, and if go, lost in the decline of price, independent of all other expenses ot travelling, freight, &c., 39 4 40 cents per bushel. At one time, not long since, the same kind of corn sold readily at 11234 cents ! Inteasstine to Frown Deavers,—A case was tried at the Oswego Circuit a few days since, in which flour dealers may fewl alittle interest. A suit was brought by Bronson & Crocker against T. Wiman, on a contract for the purchase of 2,000 barrels of flour, in October, 1846, which the defendant subsequently refused to de liver according to the terms of the contract, on the ground that the purchase was made upon a misrepresen- tation of facts in relation to English news, which put up the price of flour one dollar per barrel. ‘The defence rested upon showing that the plaintiff alone were in possession of the intelligence, through a private express, when the Nempgen was made, though stating that they had nothing but the public intelii- gence. ‘A number of witnesses were examined and many let- ters read in evidence, on the part of the defence, to prove the misrepresentation and the knowledge which the plaintiffs had of the news at the making of the con- tract. On the other hand the plaintiffs proved that Wi- man acknowledged himself satisfied with the contract after the news had transpired; on which testimony the Jury, under bees fd of the court, rendered a verdict ot $1,622 in favor of the plaintiffs. ‘The Coal Trace.
