| Wednesday, Jan. 20—6 P. ms, The stock market opened rather more buoyent than usual this morning, and prices improved a fraction all round. Harlem went up a half percent, Norwich and Worcester 34, Morris Canal 4, Canton %4, Farmers’ Loan 3%, U.S, 6's, 1856, . Long Island closed firm at yester- day's prices. Vicksburg fell off . At the second board Harlem fell off iM. There was ® meeting of the directors of the Harlem Railroad Com Pany this afternoon, to act upon some new propositions Which have boen made in relation to aloan. We have Rot heard the result of their deliberations, but we would ‘Sdvise the shorts in this stock to keep their eyes and ears Wide open. The Seamen's Bank for Savings, has declared the ‘sual dividend, payable on the 1¢th inst. The bank of Mobile has declared « semi-annual divi- dend of two anda half per cent, payable at the Mer- chant’s bank in this city. ‘We sre gratified to perceive that the Harlem Railroad has been completed to Newcastle Corners—forty-two miles from the City Hall—and that the cars will com mence running to sud from that place on Monday next. We are also informed thet the superstructure 4s laid to the Bedford station, about three miles farther, end that the iron will be put down in all next week; 80 that the cars will run to that place in about ten days. ‘The grading, bridges and masonry are all finished to Somers, and immediately upon the opening of the spring the whole road through Westchester county will be finished. The manner in which the new portion of this road has been built, is universally considered to be equal to any constructed in this country, and we trust soon to see it extended through to Albany, The receipts of the Old Colony Railroad in year ending Nov. 30, 1846, Were $126,711, and the expenses $57,280—net earnings $68,491. Two dividends of three Per cent each took $63,000, and a balance of $6,481 was leftin hands, The meeting of the Roston stockholders in the Long Inland Railroad Company, to which we alluded yoster- day, was held in that city on Monday afternoon, and much discussion had in reforence to its affairs, especially She amount of debt. A committee was appointed to re- Portat anadjourned meeting. It appeared to be settled that the debt is little over half a million of dollars. In the Year ending last August, the receipts, including the boats, were equal to expenditures within seven or eight thousand dollars. Since August a gain of 20 per cent has been realized in receipts. There has been so many of the | wild cat order, which have exploded, and ruined so | many individuals, that it is a very difficult thing | to get up confidence in any of the institutions cf | that Slate. The Michigan Insurance Company ap- pears to be in a very sound condition, and so long as it presents an appearance similar to that given in this report, there will be no danger of an explosion. The banks of Michigan, now in existence, mus’ be conducted very judiciously for a long time, be- | fore they can revive the credit of the banking system of that State, or do away with the character, opera- tions of so many swindling financiers have given it.
