of all who witnessed her first appearance on the stage of La future actions. si Jar affair occurred at the theatrical saloon of ore Museum on Saturday night, which has de- all efforts to unrayel the singuler mystery. Ist Miss Ince was dancing the Cracoviene to a d lighted and crowded audience, one of our young fashion- able bloods threw 1o the stage, directly before her, a large rag doll, accompanied with a riding Whip, which of course Was intended to have some peculier signification. She immediately retired from the stage, evidently much mortified, after which considerable excitement was man- ifested by the audience on the subject, when another of our jashionable fops who hang around the dancing girls, stepped forward as the champion of the insulted danseuse, and struck the offender a blow in the face. They were immediately separated by their friends, however, and it is now rumored that pistols and coffee are preparing for the two numskulls, 1 will endeavor to solve the riddle in the course of to-day. The war rumors have excited the Jews of Baltimore to yalorous deeds, A call has appeared to the sous of Israel in the land of the free, and the home of the brave,” to attend a meeting this evening, for the purpose of o! ganizing a volunteer company “to join our fellow citi- zens mm arms, and thereby show that Israel's sons are worthy sons of the land of Washington.” A bad move decidedly, and one that ought to be discountenanced, equally as much as if an attempt should be made to form a volunteer company of catholics, methodists, &c. Volun- veer companies should be formed of American citizens, regardless of country or creed. hree more vessel loads of German emigrants arrived yesterday from Bremen. ‘The ship Megunticook brought 189, the ship Siartha 147, and the Bremen ship Ann 164.— About twenty more vessel loads are said to be on their way to this port trom Bremen. They seem to be well clothed, and possessed of sufficient means to locate well in the far west, whither they are bound. Our respected townsman, John 8. Nicholas, Esq., was thrown from his horse a few days since and severely in- jured, but is now considered out of danger. The rumor that Capt. Thomas, the native candidate for Congress has resigned, is incorrect. ‘The party still hold on to him, though be desires to withdraw, having ascertained that even his most intinsate friends will not vote for him, und that the party which nominated him has, in Poe ees existence in Baltimore, beyond the twenty self-clected members of the convention that no- minated him, Wi. F. Giles, the democratic candidate, will doubtless be elected without difficulty. Tus Mankets.—The supply of Beeves at market yes- terday was not so large as that of last week, but it is con- sidered quite seasonable. Bavrimore, Sept. 1, 1846. 1am very sorry to tell you that a very disgraceful rio, occurred at the Museum on Saturday evening last, be- tween two young bleods of this city It appears thata Passed Midshipman threw several rings to Miss E. Ince, while dancing, after which the other threw a negro doll baby, which the Middy got offended at. He ripped out» and said that the oue who threw it was no gentleman. Atter a while they met in the City Hotel, where they hada fight, in which one of them got a severe whipping. Piapeuensa, Sept. 2, 1845. Some commotion was excited in certain political cit cles this morning, by the arrest on a charge of forgery, ofan individual, who was once an active Whig leader; subsequently a Tyler Democrat, holding an office in the Custom House under Judge Blythe, but removed by Mr. Horn, and now a prominent Democrat. He has hitherto stood fair in point of honesty, but it is said that a series of pecuniary transactions have recently come to lights which it is supposed will implicate him inextricably in hearing will take place this afternoon before Recorder Vaux. The gentleman is respectably connected, and it is said that his brother, a prominent Democratic office holder, has advanced beyond his means ia order to ex- tricate him from difieulty. What truth there is in the accusation, I know not, but it is to be hoped that it will prove groundless, John MeKeowen was this morning convicted in the | Quarter Sessions, of riot, and was sent to prison for nine months. Jolin is the son of a respectable tavern- keeper in New Market Ward, and was before the court last summer, or fall, charged with being engaged in the Kensington riots agaiust the Irish, but was acquitted. The weather is cloudy and sultry, very disagreeable and unwholesome. The Lady of Lyons was received last nightat the Wal- nut by a large audience, and it was very well played. — Fashion is produced to-night # i Mrs Mowatt and Mr. Crisp appeared at the Chesnut in Sheridan Know‘es’ play of the Wife. Our city is filled with bustle and excitement, all about war with Mexico. Major Dakin, and the celera- ted Captain Forno, blacksmith alderman tothe general council, &c., have been rousing the patriotic spirit o1 hundreds of our “ surplus” young men, to volunteer in their country’s cunse, and fight her battles. ‘The Captain took his departure the night before last for the theatre of war, with his men, ammunition,&c., in the steam ship Ala- bama. Major D. is still in the city, making every exer- tion to fill up his regiment, and to hold them in readiness forthe orders of Major Gen. Gaines. By the way, there is an on dit that the worthy old General has been gam- moned” in calling for this reinforcement, and that the panic was made to order, by some of the aspirants to military glory, aided by parties anxious to raise the price of pork and beans—however, time will tell. In the letter of your correspondent from this city, dated the Sth inst., I find many strange and inconsistent faults found with the administration for appointments made in this city. The first is Solomon W. Downs, classed (by him) as a third rate country lawyer. Now, it is well known, at least in this State, that Mr. Downe 1s avery able man. Next comes W. F.'Wagner, a youth, as your correspondent says; now,! venture to assert that this same youth isa more competent officer than ever your correspondent could pretend tobe. Twent five is not the age of a youth. Perhaps your friend thinks himself still a youth, although he is at least forty. Won- der who told him that the appointment was virtually iven to Col. Peter K. Wagner, and much against the President's will. Perhaps it was a certain friend high in office at the Custom House here, and who he thinks is a first rate whig ; no doubt he is, and ought not to be there, He got very fat and impartant since Mr. Tyler tried to make him Collector. He is said to be very'fond of oys. ters, high living, and good wine. He loudly laments the removal of Martin Ponald from the naval office, because he is the son-in-law of Henry Clay, and_@ poor man; as to his poverty, it is, | think, his own fault, as he has had, both in and ont of ‘office as many opportunities of being rich as any man | know of No fault is found with Mr. Labranche. However, I think I do—let him look out. He finds fant too with Col.
