You have seen the accounts of the arrival some time since, of young Bonaparte, to take possession of Borden town, the former residence and property of Joseph Bo: parte. Mr. Maillard, the old secretary of the ex-King, and son, reside at Bordentown, the young Prince Canino, as is his title. There is quite a romantic inci- dent connected with this, for the truth of which you may safely rely. The estate of Bordentown was bequeathed to the young Prince, with the exception of acomfortable farm, which was left to Maillard. But the father of Canino resolved that he should not take po: perty. Fearing that through his prodigality the estate would be squandered, or wishing to hold it in his own hands for his own use, he resolved to detain the young prince in Italy. The son having derived his title of Prince Canino from the Papel States, the father had control over his person in those states, and could by the laws of the kingdom imprison him there till he was twenty-five yearsofage. The young prince having resolved to come to America and take possession of his estate, the father, to prevent it, determined to throw him in prisons, and in the mean time to preclude the possibility of escape while they were in Flozence, he wrote to the various parts of Italy authorizing the authorities to arrestbim if he should appear there with the intention of embarking for any ior- eigncountry. Finding himself locked in on every side, the young prince gave himself up to despair, and await- ed the day when he s ‘ould be carried to the Papal States and be shut up in the walls ofaprison. But young Mail- lard in the mean time was active for his friend though all his elforts seemed abortive. At length but one day was left in which to escape before the tather should take the son to prison. Almost ir despair young Maillard h tened to Leghorn, and there to his joy found a Swedish vessel bound for New York. Jumping into a carriage he hurried back to Florence, and dressing himself in female apparel (a sign agreed on between the two when Mail- lard wrote him,) sent ,a note to the young prince saying a female wished to see him. Hastening to a by-street he found his friend awaiting him who told him of the Swe dish vessel that was to sail next morning for New York. The prince needed no urging, instantly jumping into tho carriage with Maillard, drove with all speed to Leghorn, where they arrived a little after daylight. ‘The vessel was to sail intwo hours, and aboard of that miserable craft with its miserable accommodations the young prinse was hurried, and in two hours was making out of port and away from the shores of Italy. After a passage of seven- ty-three days he arrived in’ New York. Maillard went to London and took passage in the packet for the United States. We saw him a week or two after his arrival full of delight to his feet on American soil. le is a no- bleman, and loves the United States better than half our owncitizens. He broughtover with him several fine dogs and some pheasants which he has taken to Bordentown to turn loose in its parks.—New York Letter, July 10. o40 050 030 040 040 020 040 040 200 150 A Wity Woman.—We understand from a gen- ileman, recently from Ellicott’s Mills, upon whose word we can rely, that no little interest has been excited in that neighborhood, in consequence of the occasional 020) appearance, for some time past, of a female, supposed to have fled from society and taken up her abode in the woods. She is reported by those who have seen her ¢ i § as being remarkably delicate and fair; with flowing tresses, small feet and hands ; neatly though plainly ap- parelled ; and, in her movements, when unconscious of any o! her species being near, cautieus and sprightly ; out, upon observing any person, she b the depth of the forest, with a speed and light superhuman. She is seldom seen ; having been accident- ally discovered, she has been watched for with Interest, and as she hes occasionally emerged from the unknown place of her seclusion—hei home in the rocks and glens —persons have wituessed her visits to the “ Sylvan Springs,” in a deep ravine peculiar to that region of coun - try. We also learn thet a number of gentlemen anxious to satisty the r curiosity in reference to this mysterious recluse, havo determined to find out the abode ot the fair and iovely stranger, and, if possible, restore her back to society. We hope to be able to report the result.— Bait 050 010 040 200 soo : 4 ; Clipper, Joly 26. The pro- babilify 1s they would have walked several hours lon. ger, had not M., in consequence of a cramp in his leg, while his eyes were in an opposite direction, stepped off the edge of the plank. The judges decided that this was equivalent to defeat, inasmuch as the strife was to see who should remain walking on the plank the longest time. They had four sworn judges, one or two of whom remained in the room alternately during the whole time. The Recorder speaks of this match as a very wicked thing. But, really, we cannot regard it in this light.
