PARK THEATRE, WEDNESDAY EVENING, ‘Thaddeus, Mr. Frazcr, la the course of the Opera, SOUTHERN MALL. » HAGUBIK Y Washington... [Correspondence of the Herald.) Wasnineron, 12th May, 1845. Mr. Pickens of South Carolina and the Mission to England—The reasons as given by the Croakers— Mr. Calhoun and Mr. Elmore, and the reasons why they declined—True reasons why Mr. Pickens declines—The Contracts for Balances for the Post Offce Department—Clerk in the State Department — Office Seekers—Mr Korponay’s Grand Ball, §c. The report that Mr. Pickens has declined the Mis- sion to England is very probably true. this to be the fact, the croakers are in full feathr just now, prophesying all sorts of evil, and determin- ing with great accuracy the exact amount of oppo- sition which South Carolina will give to the admin- istration, the trouble which it will cause, and the bother which willarise. They look upon it as very om- inous indeed that the Mission should have been first offered to Mr. Calhoun and declined by him, then to Mr. Elmore and declined by him, and then to Mr. Pickens and declined by him. This is generally regarded here as evidence that the South Carolinians will not commit themselves by accepting this mis- sion at the hands of Mr. Polk, but intend to hold themselves perfectly aloof and independent, so as ‘Art in this city. ‘The lay 14,,will be presented forthe | Prices are accordi i BOHEMIAN GIKL— vilshoff, Mr. Seguin; Arline, Mrs. ne Martin and Miss Julia Turn- of USED UP—Sir Charles First Tier, 75 Ceats—Boxes, 2d and 3d Tiers, 50 Cents—Pit, 50 uts—Gallery, 25 Cents. és Doors open at7 o'clock, and the Curtain will rise precisely at half-past 7 o'clock.
