[Correspondence of the Herold.] Ponce, P.R., Feb. 10, 1845. Fire in the Playa of Ponce, P. R. On the morning of the 3d February, about 10 o’clock, a fire broke out on the bay of Ponce, ina house occupied by Mr. Felix Puvill. The house being old and lofty, the flames soon caught a large store occupied by Messrs. Roca, Lacot & Co, and, raging with violence, soon extended to the adjoin- ing dwellings and stores. All was confusion ; and in a few ‘ours the principal stores, dwellings and cooperages were a heap of ruins The wind being strong, and varying during the fire, blew it in all directions. Many buildings took fire from the sparks, and the want of a good fire engine was se- verely felt at the time. So severe was the fire, and so quick did it rage, that of six lighters that were hauled up on the beach, five were destroyed. It will take some time before our little community will again be settled, as those who were the princi- pal sufferers were the persons who did all the ship- ping business, who are now obliged to live where they can, andput up with any place for a store. The opinion is, that brick buildings will now be erect- ed. The loss can be safely estimated at one hun- dred and fiity thousand dollars. Buffalo. {Correspondence of the New York Herald.)
