MONKY MARKET, Sunday, Sept. 15—6 P. M. ‘There is very little doing in the stock market, and al- though quotations finctuate from day to day, a compari- son of prices shows that from week to week there is very little actual change in the market. The uniformity in prices can be mainly attributed to the limited operations. ‘Thies market is surprisingiy inactivetor the season. The abundance of capital and low rate of interest do not seem toincrease operations, but on the contrary, prevent eny cornering in stocks or monopoly in merchandise. There appears to bein the market ap abundant supply of every clement of trade. ‘There is any quan‘ity of stock in the hands of the brokers, merchendise in the hands of the merchants, and produce in the hands of the producers.— ‘This large supply operates very seriously on the demand, and prevents any concentration in the hands of specula- tors, to the injury of the consuming cl The ap- provehing season will, without doubt, be very clear of any great speculative movement. Lest spring the opera- tions in’cotton, which ruined many speculators, were created by the impression that the supply weuld be much less than the demand, and that prices would, consequent- ly advance. We shall have none of these movements thisfall. ‘The supply of cottoa will greatly exceed the demand. Thecrops of grain will leave us un immense surplus. The abundance of capital enables every one to hold all the stocks they wish, and the regulation of cre- dit’, will not permit any one to go far’ beyond their depth in ony department of business. With the exception of the moderate speentations in real estate, cotton and atocks last spring, there has been no indications that any very great deviation from the regular‘movements of trade would bemade. Thethort existence of these bubbles, ‘was avidence that the tone of public feeling was decided ly against such operations. It requires something more than the abundance of money and low rate of interest to crestoany large speculation. Other elements of trade must be in a proper condition to inflate any bubble to any extent. At present none of the elements likely to change the present order of commercial affairs, are in the ne* cessary condition, or likely to be, and we therefore ‘look fo- ward to at least one more year of regular business, with prices governed by supply and demand. The counterfeit can easily be detected by aclos« inspection of the word “Dollars” in the body of the bill, the letter $8, which is added, being rather clumsily executed with the pen. ‘Th itimore money market remains without much titeration, The Banks are discounting very freely to the commercial classes, for bona file business paper. Four months paper is taken atthe rate of 6 per cent per an- num ; six months paper at 6 per cent. ‘The demand for coin has cessed. These bills are generally in demend, when purchasers wish to go into the interior the planters have great deal more confidence in their value than in the issues of the Bank of Mebile, which is very correctly called the Little Men- ster of that section of country. The State Bank of Als. bama is rapidly drawing from circulation its issues ; ac cording to the last report made to the Legislature, the smount in circulation reached $4,319,868. Nearly one half of the bad debts outstanding were held by the branch at Mobile, which cannot be very good evidence of the value of those considered bad, as demand in large markets that have experienced a revulsion are ‘Throw aside all the bad and doubtful paper held by all these banks, and there will be enough considered good to redeem every dollar of the outstanding circulation. Within three months Alabama money has been in this market twelve and fifteen per cent discount ; it is now only seven and eight. Last fall the discount was reduced as low as five, and this fall it will, without donbt, golower than that. The Banks of Ohio have, sl ght contraction in all the departments. Lafayette Bk, Cin f We i vi Bank of Sandusky, Lafayette Bk, Cincin’ ank of Circleville, lank of Wooster, Bank of, Massillon, Bank of Sandusky, In 1836, there were thirty-one banks in operation in Ohio. In 1844, there are but eight banks in partial opera tion. In 1936, the circulation of the thirty-one banks amounted to $9 675 644; in 1844, the circulation of the eight banks to only $2.136 122; in 1836, the loans of the hanks were $17 079.714; in 1844, they are only $2,814,241. Deposits in 1836, $6,125,914; in 1844, $314,270. We see here the great difference in the bank movements, and we find there has been a very great improvement in the lecal affairs of theState and ofits inhabitants. The great increase in the agricultural products of the State, and theincreas- ing wealth of the people, is good evidence that banks are by no means necessary to develope the resources of any Oid Stock Exchange. $1000 State 6's, 762 250 Nor & Wor R R b30 300 do 4000 Ohio 6's, "60 99 Bank Comm’e scrip 50 Ilinois Bank 125 Vicksburg Bank 190 dc BORK SSfeSsessossagae 50 do. 150 N Am Trust 10 Contribution’p Ins 40 Canton Co SF 40 0. 25 Mohawk RR 2% do 50 lo 175 Harlem RR 225 Reading R R 50 do 25 Nor & Wor RR b60 100 Farmers Loan cd 50 Reading RR New Stock Wxchange. in Her WorRR lo 50 Nor& WorRR 53 4 bak ‘or s oN 3- se8ean8ssk Sara or Stocks wAt the Board of Br 260 do do 26): & Worcester RR 674; 15do blw, 67, tern RR 87}: 100 do #80, 87, 9; 12 do do 94; $1000 Readi Boston, Sept. 13. rakers—-200 she Reading Reilroad 26}; East Boston Co 101; 20 do Norwic 40 do: 474, 79 Wes- ‘xchange on London ing RK Bonds, of 1860, 703.
