The great bulk of untarred cordege comes from Asia, ‘Of the 224,527 imported in 1848, 201,750 pounds came from Asia. The importation of this article is very rapidly de- creasing. The compromise tariff charged a duty of 4 Cents per pound om tarred, and 50n untarred. The tariff ‘act of 1842 charges 56 cents on tarred, and 43 cents per pound onjuntarred.
