At New Orleans it appears the fall trade is very back- ward on accountof the prevailing fever. This prevents any demani! for exchange. On the other hand the cotton begins to come forward to afford afresh supply of bills. The exports to the 23d were 3582 bales against 5165 bales at the same period last year. The demand for sterltag bills and on France was mostly for this market. The rate of the former was 74a 7}, and the latter $5 27405 30. This direction for foreign bills had reduced the rates on New York, which fell} a } per cent during the week; 60 days bills were 14 2 2 dis. andsight }a1dis. The ten- dency of bills was downwards and would probably soon reach a rate which will induce purchasers for the import ef specie. The receipts of specie at New Orleans from Sept.).1 to 23d, were $96,156. . The progress of the export trade of New Orleans from the Ist tothe 23d Sept. is seen as follows :— tions of the country bid fair to be abundant, but we ha’ recently had correct information from the plantations ts were brightest, and find that these have given up all hope of a largecrop. The crops in Millikens ‘alnut Bayou, and Lake St. Joseph, were suppos- ed in August to be very promising, but now the planters in those sections of Louisiana think their crops will fall at least one third short of last year. A planter in this county, who three weeks ago counted certainly upon five hundred bales, thinks now he will not mi hundred. This falling off is attriputed to several caus ;—the worms are injuring the cotton very much season is unfaverable and fickle, and the balls are fast, owing tothe during which carried away the fore- the 26th ult. off Cape May, ult. off Cape May, Whal Arr at Sag Harbor 2ist ult. The operation of last year has again com menced. That is for specie to flow from the seaboard south and east, and from Europe to the seaboard through out the winter and spring, aad to return with a full tide of business in the summer and ensuing fall. The accounts respecting the state of the crops and the progress of events in the West Indies are rather of a mix: ed character, but the general complexion iste the favora ble side. The drought continued to be reverely felt in some districts of the island of Jamaica, end has injured the young corn plants to such an extent that fears were entertained that it would be sensibly felt on the crop of next season. It is not denied, however, that the produc- tion of the present yearwill be considerable in excess com- pared with 1642. It is admitted that the negroes, as soon es they are visited with rain, will abandon the cultiva- tion of the planters to attend to their own provision. The sugarcrop inthe island of Barbadoes was estimated at least to be 28,000 hogsheads; 24,000 had been already ship. ped, which is the largest production of that colony since the year 1838. The Farmers’ Bank of Mobile will probably soon make its annual return to the public, preparatory to com- mencing its grand “corner” in Statemoney. The fol lowing was the condition of the concern last year, as compared with the previous one :— Srarement or THE AFFAIRS OF THE BANK oF Songy Oct. 30, 1811.
